일제강점기 재일조선유학생의 체육활동에 관한 고찰 : 재동경조선유학생학우회(1912.10-1931.2)를 중심으로 (A Study on the Ideological Trend and the Sports Activities of Choseon Students Studying In Japan during Japan's Colonial Period of Korea: Focusing on the Association of Choseon Students in Tokyo (Octo)

초록

본 논문은 일제강점기 유학생 대표기관이었던 재동경조선유학생학우회(1912.10.27 -1931.2)를 대상으로 그 회원들의 사상 동향에 따른 체육활동의 성격을 고찰하였다. 이에 따라 학우회의 사상적 동향은 3시기로 구분하여 살펴볼 수 있으며, 각 시기의 체육행사는 다음과 같이 진행되었음을 파악하였다. 첫째, 1912년-1920년은 학우회가 유학생 대표단체로서 민족주의 사상으로 통합된 시기이며, 대한흥학회의 민족주의 체육행사의 정신과 내용을 계승하여 고국원정경기와 유학생 운동회를 개최하기 시작하였다. 둘째, 1920년-1924년은 학우회가 일제의 문화정치 하에서 그 조직과 활동 영역을 대폭 확장시켰으며, 유학생들의 사상이 사회주의와 자유주의로 분화되어 갔지만 양자는 조선 사회의 개인과 민족을 동시에 고려한 문화운동이라는 측면에 동감하여 활발한 체육활동을 전개했다. 셋째, 1925년-1931년은 학우회의 주도권이 사회주의계 유학생들에게 넘어간 시기이다. 이 시기 체육활동은 민족을 초월한 계급적 정치운동을 주도하는 사회주의계 유학생들에 의해 체육활동의 민족주의적 성격이 강하게 주장되는 내재적 모순 속에서 지속되었다. 결국 이는 학우회가 민족주의를 거부하며 해체됨과 더불어 체육행사도 종말을 고하는 결과로 이어졌다. 이로써, 학우회가 해체된 이후의 1930년대 유학생 체육활동은 일부 유학생들에 의한 학교, 클럽, 지역동창회 단위로 개최됨으로써 전체 유학생 민족운동으로서의 지위를 상실한 채 부분적인 유학생 집단 차원의 행사로 국한되었다.

영어초록

This paper examined the characteristics of sports activities depen-ding on the ideological trend of the members of the Association of Choseon Students in Japan (October 1912～February 1931) which was the representative organization for the students studying in Japan during Japan's colonial rule of Korea. It divided the ideological trend of the Association into 3 periods, and based on it, it was found that the sports events of each period were performed as per the below.
First, the period from 1912 to 1920 was that the Association was integrated with nationalism while its foundation as the representative organization of Choseon students studying in Japan was constructed. The Association succeeded to the spirit and the contents of the national sports events of Korean Students' Association (Daehan Heunghakhoi), and started to hold an away match in Korea and a sport meeting for Choseon students in Japan.
Secondly, during the period from 1920 to 1924, the Association greatly expanded its organization and activity field under Japan's cultural politics. The students' ideology was differentiated into socialism and liberalism, but both agreed that the activities were the cultural movement considering individuals and the nation at the same time so they developed active sports activities.
Third, the period from 1925 to 1931 was that the initiative of the Association was transferred to socialistic students. During this period, sports activities were continued in the immanent contradiction that the nationalistic characteristics of sports activities were strongly insisted by socialistic students who led hierarchical political movement beyond the nation, which finally resulted in that the Association was broken up, refusing nationalism and that sports events came to an end. In 1930s after the Association was disorganized, the sports activities of Choseon students in Japan were taken by school, club, and local alumni association so their position as the national movement for all the Choseon students in Japan was lost and they had to be restricted to partial events for some Choseon students in Japan.
