영화의상에 표현된 색의 심상(心象)과 서사(敍事)적 상징성의 해석 - 이미지스케일의 효용과 한계에 관하여 - (Analysis on the Color Image and the Descriptive Symbolism Exposed in the Movie Costumes - Focusing on the Utility and the Limit of Image-Scale -)

초록

시대적 변모가 색채의 감성 이미지를 바꾸고 있다. 이러한 현상은 기존의 컬러 이미지스케일의 경계를 모호하게 만들었다. 따라서 감성전달 매체로 활용되는 이미지스케일은 더욱 섬세한 분류가 요구되며, 그 기준의 새로운 정립이 필요한 시점임을 시사한다.
본 연구의 목적은 기존 이미지스케일의 효용성과 한계성을 파악하고, 패션이라는 산업적 특성에 맞는 새로운 감성색채 분류와 DB구축의 필요성에 대한 검증단계의 논문이다.
분석대상은 감성전달에 있어 종합적 매개체인 영화로 선정하였다. 색채분석은 영화 <게이샤의 추억>의 주인공 게이샤와 대립구도에 있는 게이샤로 제한하고, 그들의 의상인 기모노, 유카타와 오비, 깃 등의 복식요소를 분석했다. 분석범위는 심리와 T.P.O의 변화에 따른 의상색채의 ‘감성적 상징성’과 전통과 역사적 사실을 근거로 한 ‘서사적 상징성’에 대해 고찰하였으며, 그 결과를 고바야시 이미지 스케일에 적용하여 효용성과 한계성을 파악했다.
그 결과, 기존의 이미지 스케일은 일반인 위주의 보편적 해석으로 만들어진 관계로 심리변화에 의한 색의 심상은 그대로 적용 시킬 수 있었다. 반면, 전통과 역사적 사실의 고증에 의해 재현 된 패션 이미지의 상징적 표현에는 부적절했다. 이는 패션을 비롯한 다양한 산업의 특성화와 전문성이 결여되어있으며, 각 나라의 세부적인 지역성·민족성을 내포한 감성색채의 부재 또한 드러났다.
따라서 본 연구는 후속 연구의 방향성을 제시했다고 판단되며, 연구의 결과가 패션산업의 실질적 색채 활용증대에 일조하기 바란다.

영어초록

Emotional image of colors change along with periodical changes of time. This phenomenon blurs the boundary of existing color image-scale. In this regard, it is suggested that the image-scale as a transmission media of sensibility needs more sensitive classification and that the establishment of new standards is in need.
This paper is an exploratory investigation on the utility and the limit of existing image-scale and on the needs of new classification and database of emotional colors that can identify characteristics of contemporary fashion industry. Movie is selected as a subject of analysis because movie can be considered as comprehensive transmission media of sensibility. Targets of color analysis are the heroine of the movie "Memoirs of a Geisha“ and the other geisha who is in conflict composition with the heroine, and the analysis is conducted on the elements of their costumes such as kimono, yukata, obi, collar and etc. Scope of analysis is restricted to the emotional symbolism that varies according to the change of psychology and TPO and the descriptive symbolism rooted on both traditional and historical facts. Lastly, the paper analyze the utility and the limit by applying the results to the Kobayashi image-scale.
The result shows that emotional symbolism resulting from the change of psychology can still be applied to the ordinary instances because the existing image-scale is drafted on the basis of very common understanding of ordinary people. However, the findings reveals that the existing image-scale is not appropriate for the use of symbolic expression of fashion image which is reproduced based on traditional and historical investigation of the facts. It is also recognized that the existing image-scale lacks the professional aspects and trends of various industrial characteristics including fashion industry. Furthermore, the existing image-scale fails to represent the emotional colors which supposed to expose the geographical and national characteristics of different countries.
It is expected that the result could suggest a direction of following studies and could contribute to the increasement of practical applicability of colors in the fashion industry.
