먼셀색체계의 B와 PB 색상에 대응하는 한국어 색이름 표현에 관한 연구 (Research on the Expression of the Korean Color Names Corresponding to the B and PB Colors in the Munsell Color System)

초록

색채를 표현하는 어휘는 다양하고 사람마다 지각하는 색에 대한 경험이 달라서 그 정확한 전달이 어렵고 모호하다. 그러나 명확한 의사소통을 하기 위해서는 공통된 색에 대한 감각과 정확한 명명 체계를 바탕으로 표준화된 색명체계가 필요하다. 한국표준색체계는 먼셀색체계를 기반으로 하여 한국인의 감성에 맞게 개정되어 기본색이름 선정과 체계를 규정하고 있다.
본 논문은 선행연구에서 먼셀색체계의 B와 PB 색상에 대응되는 한국어 색이름이 모두 ‘파랑’으로 혼용하여 사용하고 있으며, PB 색상을 ‘남색’으로 인지하지 않는 것으로 분석되었기 때문에 추가 논의의 필요성이 제기됨에 따라 연구를 진행하였다.
첫 번째, 먼셀색체계의 고채도 영역의 B와 PB의 색상을 한국어 이름으로 어떻게 인지하는지와 KS A 0011에서 규정하는 고채도의 ‘파랑’, ‘남색’에 관한 색표자극 실험을 자유연상명명에 의해 진행하였다. 두 번째, KS A0011의 B와 PB에 해당하는 관용색명과 한국전통색명의 표준에서 색이름을 추출하고 그 색이름과 1차 조사의 색표를 매칭하는 검증을 하였다.
연구 결과, B와 PB 색상 모두 대응되는 한국어 색이름은 ‘파랑’으로 혼용하는 결과를 보였으나 먼셀의 기본색에서 PB를 B보다 ‘파랑’으로 인지하였다. KS A 0011의 선명한 파랑(2.5PB 5/12)과 먼셀의 5PB 5/12, 5PB 4/12 또한 남색이 아닌 파랑으로 인지하는 결과를 보였다. 그러므로 계통색 체계를 위한 색상체계는 색상환에서 다른 색상과의 거리 차이 등을 비교했을 때 먼셀색체계의 중심색 5를 유지하는 방향성도 고려할 것을 제안한다. 또한 남색(7.5PB 2/10)은 명도 2이므로 다른 기본색의 명도에 비해 낮아서 동일한 색상환에 위치하면 명도와 채도의 상호관계에서 체계의 일관성을 부여하기 어렵다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 향후 KS A 0011이 과학적이고 체계적인 색채표준과 일상생활에서 색채에 관한 원활한 의사소통방식으로 활용되기를 기대한다.

영어초록

The experiences of the colors perceived by each person are different; moreover the accurate transmission of them is difficult and ambiguous, so the vocabulary of expressing colors is diverse, However, a standardized color name system is needed to clarify communication with a sense of common colors and an accurate naming system. The Korean standard color system is based on the Munsell color system which revised to suit the Korean sensibilities, and it stipulates the selection and system of basic color names.
In previous studies, this paper is resulted of the mixed use of “blue” in Korean color names corresponding to the B and PB colors within the Munsell color system that they are not recognizing the PB color as “indigo”. That’s why the research was processed a necessity for standardized color name.
First, the experiment was represented how to recognize the colors of B and PB in the high saturation area of ​​Munsell by Korean names, and the color stimulus experiments for the high saturation “blue” and “indigo” as defined in KS A 0011.
Secondly, a verification survey was conducted to match the color names extracted from the standard Korean traditional color names and the conventional color names corresponding to B and PB of KS A0011 in the color table on the first survey.
As a result of the study, it was found that the Korean color names corresponding to both B and PB colors were mixed as "blue", but the PB in Munsell's basic color was recognized as "blue" rather than B. KS A 0011's vivid blue (2.5PB 5/12) and Munsell's 5PB 5/12, 5PB 4/12, and also perceived as blue, not indigo, were shown. Therefore, as the systematic color system should also be represented the direction on maintaining the central color 5 of the Munsell color system when considering the difference in distance from other colors in the color wheel.
In addition, since indigo color (7.5PB 2/10) has value of 2, it is lower than that of other basic colors, so it is difficult to give system consistency in the relationship between value and chroma when placed on the same color wheel.
Regarding the results of this study, it is expected that KS A 0011 will be used as a scientific and systematic color standard and a smooth communication method for colors in everyday life.
