‘통합적 인간 발전’으로서의 새 복음화: ‘세계 시민’으로서의 평신도의 역할을 중심으로 (New Evangelization as ‘Integral Human Development’: Centering on the Role of Laity as ‘A Global Citizen’)

초록

본고는 ‘새 복음화’와 그 주체로서 평신도의 역할이라는 주제를 세 부분으로 나누어 성찰했다. 우선 새 복음화의 개념과 관련해 이를 ‘통합적 인간 발전’에 견주어 살폈고 개념규정을 위해 주로 교황 문헌과 FABC 문헌을 중심으로 논의했다. 통합적 인간 발전은 ‘개인과 인류 전체’의 발전을 뜻하며 동시에 물질적, 도덕적, 영적 발전의 차원을 포함하는 것이라고 규정했다. 한편 통합 생태론은 ‘가난한 이의 절규는 지구의 절규’라는 표현에서 드러나듯이 인간과 자연은 하나로 연결되어 있으며 생태계의 보존과 배척된 이들에 대한 배려와 연대는 동시에 추구되어야 함을 보여준다. 또한 공의회의 대화정신을 계승하여 아시아 토양에 창의적이고 구체적으로 구현한 것이 FABC의 삼중 대화라고 평가하면서 그 근거로 아시아인의 삶에서 우러나오는 아시아의 종교 문화적 다원주의를 제시했다.
둘째 부분은 새 복음화의 주체로서 평신도의 신원과 지위를 제2차 바티칸 공의회의 공헌과 한계를 돌아봄으로써 짚었고 성과 속, 성직자-평신도, 교회-세상이라는 이원론을 극복할 만한 가능성으로서 ‘평신도 신학 운동의 해석학적 순환’을 제시하였다. 곧 공의회는 ‘하느님의 백성’이라는 세상을 포함한 하나의 교회를 제시했지만 무늬만 바꾼 완화된 형태의 성속 이원론이 살아남아서 ‘사회참여신학’을 바탕으로 한 ‘천주교 사회 운동’, 특히 성직자를 중심으로 한 엘리트 운동의 길을 열어 주었고 2018년 현재까지도 여기서 크게 벗어나지 못하고 있다고 보았다.
마지막으로 일상에서 실현되어야 할 인간 발전의 주체로서 평신도 양성을 위한 세계 시민 의식과 공동합의성의 관점에서 그 전망을 살폈다. 프란치스코 교황이 제안한 ‘듣는 교회’는 단순한 교회의 모델을 넘어 공의회가 남긴 과제인 ‘사회참여신학’의 한계를 보완할 한 가능성을 제시하고 있다고 보았다. 또한 듣는 교회에서 시작하는 현실과 복음의 직접적인 대화는 공의회 이후의 평신도 운동의 전망의 실마리를 찾아 나가는 데 긴요하며, 이를 위해 복음화의 주체로서 평신도 교육 및 양성을 ‘세계 시민’의 관점에서 논의하자고 제안했다.

영어초록

In this paper, I divide the discussion on the theme of ‘new evangelization’ and the role of laity into three major parts. First, for defining the concept of new evangelization, I compare it with ‘integral human development’ in discussing mainly the documents of Pope Francis and the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences(FABC). The idea of an integral human development follows the ‘On Human Development’, an encyclical of Pope Paul Ⅵ, which stresses the development of ‘each individual person, each human group, and humanity as a whole’(n. 14) including the levels of economic, moral and spiritual development. Similarly, the ‘integral ecology’ reveals that human and nature are connected together expressed well in the words such as ‘the cry of the poor is the cry of the earth’. Therefore, care for and solidarity with the poor and the preservation of the ecosystem must be pursued at the same time. In addition, it was the FABC’s ‘triple dialogue’ that succeeded the spirit of dialogue from the Vatican Ⅱ and embodied in a creative and concrete way on the Asian soil. The triple dialogue represents religious and cultural pluralism in Asia coming from the diverse and pluralistic realities in peoples lives in Asia.
The second part of the paper is to look at the identity and role of the laity as the subject of new evangelization by looking back on the contribution and limitations of the Second Vatican Council. It also suggests the possibility of overcoming the dualism of the world and the church as well as the clergy and the laity which is, this paper clearly argues, one of the council’s major limitations. This is what we call the ‘hermeneutical cycle of lay theology as a movement’. The Council presented ‘the People of God’ as one church including the world but the modified form of dualism that has only changed its appearances has remained alive. Based on that, the ‘Catholic Social Movement’ the local Catholic Church and its followers have engaged until now has opened its door to the world but entailed a way to an elite movement eventually.
Finally, the paper looks at a vision from the viewpoint of ‘global citizenship’ and ‘synodality’ for promoting formation of laity as the subject of human development to be realized in everyday life. The ‘Listening Church’ proposed by Pope Francis shows the possibility of overcoming the said dualism, a task left behind by the Council. In addition, the direct dialogue of the gospel with the reality in the world which begins in the listening church is crucial in finding clues to the prospect of the lay movement after Vatican Ⅱ. For this, the paper suggests discussions on education and formation of lay people as a subject of evangelization in terms of ‘global citizenship’.
