초록

성경 히브리어 동사체계에 대한 연구는 오래 전부터 있었지만 합의점을 찾지 못하였다. 앞으로 이 분야는 계속 연구되어야 한다. 성경 히브리어 동사체계에 대한기존의 논의를 이해하고 앞으로 발전된 연구를 위하여 이 분야에서 사용되는 기본적 문법 범주에 대한 이해가 필요하다. 동사체계 논의에서 가장 기본이 되는 문법범주는 바로 상, 시제, 양태이다. 본 논문에서는 19세기 이후 활발하게 논의된 연구결과과 그 과정을 이 세 개념을 중심으로 소개한다. 지금까지 지배적 역할을 하였던 것은 19세기 이후 시작된 에발트와 드라이브의 상 이론이었다. 하지만 오늘날은상 이론 자체도 많이 발전하였을 뿐 아니라, 일반 언어학의 도움으로 시제와 양태역시 성경 히브리어 동사체계 연구에서 중요한 역할을 하고 있다. 본 논문은 성경본문의 구체적 예와 역사적 발전 과정을 통하여 상과 시제, 양태가 동사형태에 내장된 정보를 읽는 문법적 도구임을 보여준다.

영어초록

This paper tries to explain the grammatical categories such as aspect, tense and modality explored in the field of biblical hebrew, specially concerning verbal system. In the middle age a jewish circle considered that the verbal system of biblical hebrew was a tense system. Since Ewald and Driver in the 19th century, a theory of aspect which was the dominant one among scholars regards the verbal system as perfect vs. imperfect. According to Ewald and Driver, the perfect describes an event as complete and the imperfect as incomplete, irrespective of temporal frame. But now the aspect theory of the 19th century has developed. According to the new aspect theory which also has a binary concept, perfective vs. imperfective, the perfective looks at the situation from outside, without necessarily distinguishing any of the internal structure of the situation, whereas the imperfective looks at the situation from inside. And a tense theory has also evolved in comparison to the tense theory of the jewish in the middle age. The tense system involves the relationships among three temporal points: that of the speech (S), the event (E), and the reference of point (R). In a tense system, R may or may not coincide with S. R may be past to the speaker (R<S), it may be simultaneous (R=S), or it may be future (R>S). In this manner, a tense does not situate a process in time, but rather orders it relative to a point of reference as Binnick observes. Modality is generally defined as involving the speaker's attitude or opinion toward an utterance. There are two kind of Modality: epistemic and deontic. Currently, aspect, tense and modality operates in relationship with one another. Deontic modality involves the speaker's will, whereas epistemic modality the speaker's judgment. The definitions of three categories introduced in this paper might contribute to understanding of an actual debates among scholars and our research can help the exegete, the predicator and translator of the Old Testament.
