남구만 <약천집> <시>의 편집상의 특징 고찰 (2) (A Consideration on the Compilation Characteristics of Poems in "Yakcheonjip" (collection of poetries and proses) by Nam Gu-man (2))

초록

본고는 『약천집』과 당대의 다른 문인들의 문집에서 찾아낸 남구만과 관련된 시들을 통해 『약천집』 「시」의 편집상의 특징을 찾아내는 것을 목적으로 하였다.
2장에서는 남구만의 현존시를 재검토하며, 당대 문인들의 문집에서 『약천집』에 수록되어 있지 않은 남구만의 시 13수와 남구만의 시에 차운한 다른 문인들의 시 20여수를 찾아내어 제시하였다. 필자가 확인한 남구만의 현존시는 총 294수이다.
3장에서는 『약천집』 「시」의 편집의도에 대해 살펴보았다. 권1과 권2는 남구만이 처음 유배를 갔던 1679년을 기점으로 나뉘는데, 이것은 편집자(아들 남학명)가 이 시점을 부친(남구만) 인생의 전환점이라고 인식했기 때문일 것이다. 그리고 『약천집』 「시」에는 남구만의 시 외에 다른 사람의 시가 ‘부원운附元韻 ’(14번) 혹은 ‘부차附次 ’(1번)라 하여 덧붙여지기도 했는데, 단 한번 ‘부차’가 된 것은 남구만이 두 번째 유배를 받아 경흥으로 갔을 때 지은 시에 차운한 관찰사 박태상의 시이다. 여기에는 남구만의 함경도 관찰사 시절의 업적을 되새기며 남구만의 애국심과 민족의식과 문학적 성취 등을 부각시키고자 하는 의도가 깃들어 있는 것으로 보인다.
4장에서는 『약천집』 「시」의 편집경향을 살펴보았다. 『약천집』 「시」에서는 남구만의 31세(1659년) 이전의 시작기도 하였을 것으로 보인다. 그리고 적잖은 만시가 산삭되었을 것으로 유추되는데, 이는 편집자가 『약천집』에 수록할 시를 균형 있게 배분하며 선별하였음을 시사한다.

영어초록

The purpose of this article is to examine the poems related to Nam Gu-man and listed in literary collections by other contemporary writers as well as in Yakcheonjip and thereby to identify the compiling intent and compiling pattern for the part 「Poems」 in Yakcheonjip.
Chapter 2 examined surviving poems by Nam Gu-man, and discovered from literary collections by other contemporary writers, and presented, 13 poems by Nam Gu-man not contained in Yakcheonjip and 20 or so poems written by other writers by using the same rhymes as those of Nam Gu-man’s poems. The total number of remaining poems by Nam Gu-man, as verified by the author of this article, is 294.
Chapter 3 examined the compiling intent for 「Poems」 in Yakcheonjip. In the 「Poems」, “Book 1” and “Book 2” are divided, in terms of when the poems were written, by the year 1679 when Nam Gu-man was exiled for the first time, which may be because the compiler Nam Hak-myeong (son of Nam Gu-man), recognized that year as the turning point in the life of his father. Also, 「Poems」 in Yakcheonjip contains other people’s poems in addition to those by Nam Gu-man, as ‘adding the original poem whose rhyme is used in another poem)’ (No. 14) or ‘adding a poem using the same rhyme as that of the original poem’ (No. 1), and the single example of the latter was Provincial Governor Park Tae-Sang’s poem using the same rhyme as that of Nam Gu-man’s poem written when the latter was exiled for the second time to Gyeongheung. The intent here seems to be to remember Nam Gu-man’s accomplishments as Governor of Hamgyeong Province and to emphasize his patriotism, national awareness and literary achievements.
Chapter 4 examined the compiling pattern for 「Poems」 in Yakcheonjip. All poems written by Nam Gu-man on or before 1659, when he was 31 years old, were deleted from 「Poems」 in Yakcheonjip, and due to political situations of his time, poems related to certain figures were excluded from the same. Also, one can see that quite a few poems mourning the dead were deleted, which implies that the compiler maintain balance in selecting poems to be listed in Yakcheonjip.
