김유정 소설의 도시 체험과 환등상적 양상 (Urban Experience of Kim Yu-jung’s Novels and a Form of Phantasmagoria)

초록

본고는 김유정 소설의 도시 체험에 나타난 환등상적 양상에 주목하였다.
김유정 소설에서 도시의 환등상은 ‘경험(Erfahrung)’에서 ‘체험(Erlebnis)’으로의 이동 지점에서 생성된다. 새롭게 도래한 거대한 근대 도시를 감각하기에 턱없이 빈약한 주체에게 있어, 그 간극을 효과적으로 메울 수 있는일종의 방법적 효과로서 도시적 환영이 존재한다. 그것은 주로 ‘돈(물질)’과 ‘과학’의 기표나 ‘군중’ 체험을 통해 나타난다. 인물들은 도시의 환영을통해 삶의 개별적 결핍과 박탈감을 망각하고 봉합한다. 하지만 그것이 무지와 오인에서 비롯된 환상이라는 것을 도시의 냉정한 생리를 통해 보여줌으로써 도시를 탈신화화 한다. 궁극적으로 김유정의 소설은 도시의 매혹과꿈꾸기로부터 강렬한 각성과 파괴력을 도출한다. 근대 도시의 허물어지는주변부와 낡은 시간성은 도시의 불연속적 단층들을 드러낸다. 전통의 표상들은 ‘막 지나간 과거’로서 현실의 억압적 미몽을 일깨워주며, 주변인들의‘구걸’, ‘도박’ 등은 자본제적 생산 질서의 경계에서 자본제적 양식을 파괴하는 불온성을 지녔다. 전통ㆍ과거ㆍ주변인은 허물어지는 존재인 동시에도시의 환부를 일깨우는 역설적인 기호로 존재한다. 김유정 소설에 재현된도시 체험을 통해 본고는 30년대 근대 도시의 판타지와 그것을 가로지르는문학적 전략을 확인하려 했다.

영어초록

This paper aimed at confirming fantasy of 1930’s modern cities and literary strategies crossing them through phantasmagoric phases represented in Urban experience of Kim Yu-jung’s novels.
The phantasmagoria of Urban in Kim Yu-jung’s novels is generated at the place where ‘Erfahrung’ changes into ‘Erlebnis’. The subject is too weak to sense the modern urban that newly appeared. As a kind of methodological effect enabling filling up the gap between a urban and the subject, a phantom of a urban exists. That mostly shows as a symbol of ‘money(material)’ and ‘science’. At last, a materialistic phantom which lies in the center of urban phantoms is not involved in the reality of Seoul. By revealing such a disrelation, Kim Yu-jung’s novels are intended to escape from urban.
In addition, figures positively coping with urban phantoms forget and sutured individual poverty and a sense of deprivation of life through ‘mass’ experience. Kim Yu-jung, however, keeps away from the crowd and conceal the attraction of urban by again revealing the individual lack that their lives contains. So to speak, it is ironical that the pursuit of ‘culture’ from illiteracy results in alienation from culture.
Ultimately Kim Yu-jung’s novels draw strong awaking and destructive power from phantasmagoria of urban experience. The novels show discontinuous faults and fatal disruption of urban through breaking surrounding regions and old Zeitlichkeit of modern urban. Traditional symbols awakens the suppressive illusions of the reality as ‘immediate past’, the ‘begging’, ‘gambling’, etc.
retain rebellious nature which destructs capitalistic style at the boundary of capitalistic production order. Therefore, in Kim Yu-jung’s novels, traditionㆍpastㆍmarginal man are the alienated existences and at the same time ironical symbols that hit the inside of the modern society.
