초록

이글은 일제강점기부터 본격적으로 쓰여 진 「자화상」시편을 낭만주의적 관점에서 세분화하여 시적 세계관을 탐구 할 가치가 있다고 판단하고, 기존에 논의되지 않았던 낭만성에 주목하였다. 한국현대 「자화상」 시편에 나타난 낭만성을 고찰하여 그 특징과 의의를 밝히고자 하였다.「자화상」 시편이 보여주는 낭만성은 대부분 현실 세계와 분리된 자아, 초월, 이상 세계를 동경하고 있는 것으로 파악되었다.
연구방법으로 낭만적 주체가 동경하는 세 가지 관점에서 낭만적 세계관을 살펴보았다. 첫째 실존 부정과 근원성, 둘째 현실 이탈과 초월성, 셋째 세계 분열과 퇴행성 등이 그것이다. 텍스트로 근현대사에 대표적인 시인들을 선정하여 두드러지게 나타나는 낭만성을 중심으로 분석하였다. ‘실존 부정과 근원성’에서는 . 박종화 · 이은상 · 윤곤강을, ‘현실 일탈과 초월성’에서는 이상 · 박두진․박희진 을, ‘세계 분열과 퇴행성’에서는 권환 · 윤동주 · 김규동 등의「자화상」시편을 살펴보았다.
논고한 9명의 시인들의 「자화상」 시편에서는 각 장마다 시인이 처한 현실 문제와 의식에 따라서 시세계가 다르게 나타난다. 여기에서 주목할 것은 시인의 낭만적 개성에 의해 객관성․합리성․이성 등에 반하는 의식으로서 ‘동경 세계’의 진입을 시도하고 있다. 이러한 가운데 내재된 인식 체계로서 자아 정체성은 「자화상」 시를 통해 현실에서 유리된 낭만적 성격이 강하게 돌출되었다. 그것은 시인의 「자화상」은 자신에 대한 단순한 외형적 모방 또는 내향적 묘사뿐만 아니라 주체 의식의 표현 양상으로 주관성과 감상성이 관여하는 사적 영역으로서 낭만성이 형성되고 있는 것으로 탐구되었다.
따라서 낭만적 주체가 형상화시킨 「자화상」 시는 현실 세계에 대한 부정과 이상 세계의 동경 사이에서 시인의 욕망과 더불어 ‘현실적 분리’와 ‘감정적 갈등’을 통해 현실세계에 저항한다는 것이다. 이른바 시인이 처한 시대와 상황 속에서 비논리적이고, 비합리적이며, 비이성적인 주관적 감상으로서 ‘다양한 동경의 대상’을 동반하여 시인이 가닿고자 하는 ‘낭만적 세계관’을 발견할 수 있다.
