초록

충청남도는 ‘2010 세계대백제전’을 통해 700년 백제의 역사·문화적 가치를 일깨운다는 목표를 갖고 있다. 이미 백제역사재현단지를 조성하였고, 공주와 부여를 중심으로 16개 시·군이 참여하는 다양한 프로그램도 구상하였다. 그런데 ‘백제’에 대한 일반적인 역사인식을 고려할 때, 오로지 백제의 긍정적 이미지에 초점을 맞춘 프로그램 구상은 또 다른 한계에 봉착할 수 있다. 백제는 패망의 역사를 통해 정체성을 구현할 수 있고, 그렇게 함으로써 일종의 경쟁관계에 놓여 있는 신라문화권과 전혀 다른 독자성을 확보할 수 있다. 패망했기 때문에 철저히 파괴되고 왜곡된 역사와 문화라는 사실에 초점을 맞출 필요가 있다.
이러한 인식을 바탕으로, 백제문화권의 문화유산을 둘러보면 백제역사와 백제문화에 대한 관심 내지 앎의 욕구를 충족시켜줄 만한 관광자원이 존재한다. 백제무형문화로서 ‘삼천궁녀 애사’이다. 삼천궁녀 애사는 누대에 걸쳐 신화성을 확보해 왔으며, 별다른 가공이 없어도 누구나 삼천궁녀 애사를 잘 알고 있다. 그리고 삼천궁녀가 몸을 던진 그곳, 백마강에서 삼천궁녀의 넋을 달래는 충청도 무당굿 ‘삼천궁녀진혼제’가 전승되고 있다. 백제의 흥성과 멸망의 기반에서 볼 때, 삼천궁녀진혼제는 백제의 상징으로서 백제의 정서를 대표할 수 있는 문화유산이라고 할 수 있다.
