초록

Eleanor Roosevelt has been rated as the best person among
first ladies of American history. The purpose of this study is to
understand the formative background of Eleanor Roosevelt’s
leadership.
This study is one case on Eleanor Roosevelt applied with the
common points of best leaders from the result of
psychoanalysts' study.
Psychoanalysts ascertain that the death of leaders' parent or
one of them, before they will be 20 years old, has effects on the
love-deprivation with the ching surrounding elements. They
also make clear that leaders want to get recognition from others
and to show strong willpower, affection, and independent spirit.
Eleanor's case is the same. She was not born beautifully. But
her mother was queen of social relation with the most beautiful
appearance in the New York society and mistreated her
daughter. Eleanor's mother suddenly died when Eleanor was
eight years old. Then Eleanor's father love her dearly. However
her father died of alcoholism when she was 10 years old.
Eleanor got the nickname, “Granny”, on account of her
over-careful attitude. She was not loved by her parents, so was
seized with strong love-deprivation and strived for affection
from others. It is just a kind of compensation.
Eleanor wanted to heal the hurt of her childhood's marriage.
But her mother-in law Sara, was of the love-deprivation
factors. Mother-in-law loved the only son, Franklin Roosevelt,
ever so much and meddled in everything regarding the married
life of her son.
Additionally, she got hurt-felt injury from her trustful
husband. In 1918, Franklin had an affair with a young, beautiful,
and charming woman.
The love-deprivation and heart-felt injury played a role in not
only foundation of her strong and independent living but also
root of an independent human being. In fact, in 1918 when her
husband had an affair, Eleanor avowed her independent living to
be a perfect wife and daughter-in-law.
In case that Eleanor had been hidden in the glass ceiling of
her destiny and love-deprivation, and she had broken up the
marriage against the affair of her husband, maybe, the American
history and World history should have changed so much.
However, she became a successful political partner of Franklin
Roosevelt in the fiend of the active and practical demands.
During the periods of president Franklin and First lady Eleanor,
America and the Allied Powers overcame the Great Depression
and won the World War II.
Then, The role of America was intensified in the world stage
in the meantime. With regard to the reason of american success,
It goes without saying that the role of Eleanor is very very
important.
