체육계열 내 여교수들의 삶에 대한 내러티브 연구 (A Narrative Study on the Life of Female Professors in Physical Education)

초록

본 연구의 목적은 체육계열 내 여성교수로서의 경험과 삶을 이해함으로써 여성교수에 대한 인식을 높일 수 있는데기여하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 본 연구를 위해 체육계열 여성 교수 4명을 대상으로 심층면담을 수행하였으며, 내러티브 분석 방법으로 의미를 해석하고 범주화였다. 연구참여자들의 내러티브는 교수가 되기까지의 과정과 교수로서의경험이라는 두 가지 축을 기준으로 분석하였다. 첫째, 교수가 되는 과정에서는 반복되는 실패 경험과 미래가 보장되지않는 상황의 어려움이 나타났으며 여성으로서의 목소리를 감추거나 여성의 강점을 살리는 타협의 과정이 확인되었다. 또한 학생지도에 대한 적성과 교육자로의 마음, 그리고 강의와 연구에 대한 열정이 목표를 향한 노력을 지속하게하는 힘이 되고 있음을 이해할 수 있었다. 둘째, 체육계열 여자 교수로 살아가기의 주제를 통해 교수직 업무 및소통의 어려움에 적응해가며 여성으로서의 강점을 살리고 긍정적 평가를 받기 위해 노력하는 결과를 도출하였다. 또한 너무 과하지도 않으면서도 충분한, ‘엄마의 마음’과도 같은 심경이 학생들에게 전달되어 보람을 느끼고 있었다.
셋째, 여성교수자로서의 목소리 내기 주제를 통해 여성 교원의 수가 증가되어야 한다는 필요성과 여성교수로서의반성적 성찰을 확인하고 여성교수로의 긍정적 역할과 향성을 논의하였다. 본 연구는 여성교수로서의 경험을 드러내어 차세대 여성체육학자들에게 삶의 통찰력과 방향성을 제시하고, 체육학분야에서 상대적으로 관심이 적었던 주제를탐구함으로써 후속연구를 위한 근거를 제공하는데 의의가 있다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study is to contribute to raising awareness of female professors by understanding their experiences and lives as female professors in the physical education field. For this study, in-depth interviews were conducted with four female professors in the physical education field, and the meanings were interpreted and categorized using the narrative analysis method. The narratives of the research participants were analyzed based on two axes: the process of becoming a professor and their experiences as a professor.
First, the process of becoming a professor showed repeated experiences of failure and difficulties in situations where the future was not guaranteed. In addition, it was confirmed that through the process of compromise, they hid their voices as women or utilized their strengths as women. In addition, it was understood that their aptitude for student guidance, their heart as an educator, and their passion for teaching and research were the driving forces that enabled them to continue their efforts toward their goals. Second, through the theme of living as a female professor in the physical education field, the results were derived that they adapted to the difficulties of professorial work and communication, utilized their strengths as women, and tried to receive positive evaluations. In addition, they felt a sense of accomplishment as they conveyed to their students a ‘motherly heart’ that was not too excessive but sufficient. Third, through the topic of speaking up as a female professor, we confirmed the need for an increase in the number of female professors and the reflective introspection of female professors, and discussed the positive role and direction of female professors. This study is significant in that it reveals the experiences of a female professor, offers insights and direction for the next generation of female physical education scholars, and lays the groundwork for future research by exploring a topic that has received relatively little attention in the field.
