도연명의 형신관(形神觀)과 생태적 삶 (A Study on Tao Yuanming’s Physical-Psychological Perspective and his Ecological Life)

초록

본 연구는 晋末宋初의 陶淵明(365~427)의 형신관에 담긴 철학사상을 살펴보고, 그의 생태적 삶 사이의 연관성을 고찰한 논문이다. 동양철학에서는 形·神·氣·精 등을 인체의 생리적 요소로 논했는데, 이들 개념을 고려해 육체와 정신의 형신관계적 특성을 종합한 것이 바로 形神觀이다. 『황제내경』에는 “形과 神이 갖추어져야 천수를 다할 수 있다.(形與神具, 而盡終其千年)”고 하였는데, 이 문장은 ‘養形’과 ‘養神’의 조화가 생태적 삶을 영위하는데 중요한 요건이라는 뜻을 담고 있다.
본고에서는 도연명의 형신관적 특징을 규명하기 위해 동시대 승려인 慧遠(334~416)과 醫易學의 형신관을 비교론적 관점에서 탐구하였다. 세 분야의 형신관은 매우 대조적이다. 각각의 형신관 비교를 위해 첫째 「佛影銘」에 깃든 혜원의 불교적 관점의 형신관을 분석하고, 둘째 醫易同源, 醫易同道, 醫易相通을 근본사상으로 하는 의역학의 형신관을 살펴보았다. 다음으로 인간을 形(육체), 影(그림자), 神(정신)의 3가지 관점으로 분석한 도연명의 형신관을 「形影神」의 「形贈影」·「影答形」·「神釋」의 3수와 「雜詩」·「挽歌詩」 등을 종합해 形觀, 影觀, 神觀으로 나누어 세부적으로 고찰하였다.
혜원은 形盡神不滅論적이며 불교적 관점의 형신관을 가지고 있다. 고대과학적 사유의 원형을 간직한 의역학은 형신합일적 整體觀에 입각한 형신관을 가지고 있다. 도연명은 인간을 물리적 생명체, 감성적 생명체, 자기성찰을 하는 이성적 생명체로 나누어 이해했고, 영생과 초월성을 추구하지 않은 形神一元的이며 神滅論적인 형신관을 가지고 있었다. 그는 감성과 이성에 모두 의미를 부여하고, 형·영·신의 조화로움과 善의 가치실현을 강조했다. 도연명의 생명관, 인간관, 형신관을 토대로 한 平淡의 추구 및 審美的인 문학적 관조가 그의 생태적인 삶의 원동력이었음을 확인할 수 있다.

영어초록

This paper aims to explore the physical-psychological perspective of Tao Yuanming(陶淵明, 365~427) and study its connections with his ecological life. In Tao Yuanming’s physical-psychological perspective characteristics, he analyzes human through body(形), shadow(影) and spirit(神). In this paper, an attempt has been made to conduct a comparative study of the physical-psychological perspective of Hui Yuan(慧遠, 334~416) and Yiyixue(醫易學) based on Zhouyi philosophy. The reason for considering the three areas are- Firstly, the concepts of Ru·Fo·Dao(儒·佛·道) mentioned in the oriental philosophy are specific and vary. Secondly, the Physical-Psychological perspective is an important element to determine various aspects and qualities of Human life.
Huangdinajing(黃帝內經) references that “the natural span of life can be accomplished if it is Physical(body) and Psychological(spirit).” These words imply that the harmony between the elements of physical and psychological wellbeing is an important constituent for ecological harmony.
The paper specifically explains three aspects. Firstly, it deals with the study of the Hui Yuan’s Physical-Psychological perspective driven by Buddhism. Yuanming and Hui Yuan, both have peaks illustrating expressions of image. This paper analyses Hui Yuan’s perspective of mortality of the body and immortality of soul(spirit) concentrating on foyingming. Secondly, it analyzes the Physical-Psychological perspective of Yiyixue based on『zhouyi』 philosophy. This paper has endeavored to compare the physical-psychological perspective of Yiyixue centered on the stagnant organic biological relation between the body and spirit. Thirdly, Tao Yuanming’s perspective has been specifically investigated, largely covering the three aspects of 「Xingzengying(形贈影)」,「Yingdaxing(影答形)」 and 「Shenshi(神釋)」 in 「Xingyingshen(形影神)」. These perspectives are also mentioned in other literary works. Therefore, the paper has examined these aspects by classifying it in to three separate perspectives Body, Shadow, Spirit and tried to scrutinize through Tao Yuanming’s perspectives of mortality of the spirit.
The study concludes different perspectives of Tao Yuanming, Hui Yuan, and Yiyixue. Tao Yuanming’s perspectives are based on harmonization between Body, Shadow, Spirit thoughts of mortality of the body and soul. Moreover, Tao Yuanming laid emphasis on actualizing the values with the help of meditation. Throughout the paper, Tao Yuanming’s Physical-Psychological perspective along with his life and driving force of his literary contribution could be explored and comprehensively understood.
