초록

이 글은 숙명여대 글쓰기 교육 사례가 삶을 위한 글쓰기 교육에 어느 정도나, 어떻게 기여하는지를 분석하는 데 목적이 있다. 나아가 그 내용과 특징, 의의와 한계를 통해 대학 글쓰기 교육의 방향을 재고해보고자 한다.
숙명여대의 글쓰기 교육은, 2002년 이후 한국 대학글쓰기 교육의 뚜렷한 모형으로 자리를 잡았다. 숙명여대의 글쓰기 교육은 학술적 담화 공동체가 요구하는 기초교육으로서 논리적 근거를 들어 자신의 주장을 설득하는 글쓰기, 즉 논증과 비판적 글쓰기 교육이 중심 목표가 되어야 한다는 데 인식의 기초를 두고 있다. 숙명여대 글쓰기 교육의 안정성은 전담 기구의 독립적 운영에서 비롯된다는 점이 중요하다. 숙명여대의 사례는 전임교수의 비율을 높여 강사 없는 글쓰기 교육을 구현하고, 학문적 다양성이 갖춰진 글쓰기 교육을 추구함으로써 긍정적 결과를 산출한 대표적 사례이다. 숙명여대 글쓰기 교육이 갖는 특징과 의미는 글쓰기 교육과정의 연계･심화 체제에서도 찾을 수 있다. 숙명여대 교육 모형이 갖는 기능적･규범적 글쓰기의 한계는 연계과목과 심화과목을 통해 보완되고 있다.
그럼에도 불구하고 숙명여대의 글쓰기 교육은 ‘저자성’을 약화시키고, ‘텍스트 중심주의’에 치중되었다는 점에서 한계를 지닌다. 또한 ‘글’ 중심의 텍스트 구조 분석과 그에 기반을 둔 논리적 구조를 지나치게 일반화하고 있다. 따라서 학술적 담화를 일방적으로 수용하거나 내면화하려는 것을 넘어 ‘저자성’을 강화하는 방안이 모색되어야 한다. 텍스트로서의 매체를 다양하게 확장할 필요가 있고, 읽고 쓰기의 모형을 통학문적 감성적 통찰로까지 넓히는 게 필요하다. 사회적 실천으로서의 글쓰기를 강조하는 것도 이러한 맥락에서다.
바야흐로 새롭게 진입한 대학글쓰기 교육의 현실을 인식하고 연대와 실천을 준비하는 일이 더욱 중요해졌다. 이 시점에서 필요한 것은 연대와 실천이다. 연대의 목표는 처지의 공유가 아니라 대학글쓰기(혹은 작문학)라는 학문적 정체성을 수립하는 데 있으며, 양질의 전문가 양성과 교육 시스템의 선순환 구조를 마련하는 것이다. 이러한 관점에서 숙명여대 글쓰기 교육의 의미와 한계는 유의미한 지표를 제공하고 있다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study was to investigate how much and in what ways the cases of writing education would contribute to writing education for life in Sookmyung Women’s University. The study also aimed to reconsider the directions of writing education in college based on its content, characteristics, significance, and limitations.
Writing education of Sookmyung Women’s University has been established as a clear model for college writing education in the nation since 2002. As part of basic education required by the acade- mic discourse community, it has a foundation in the perception that persuasive writing with logical grounds or demonstration and critical writing education should be the central goals. It is note- worthy that its stability stems from the independent operation of its dedicated institution. The case of Sookmyung Women’s University is one good example of providing writing education only with dedicated professors and no instructors and generating positive results by pursuing writing education armed with academic diver- sity. Writing education of Sookmyung Women’s University also highlights its characteristics and significance with the linkage and intensification system of its writing curriculum. The education model of the university has the limitations of functional and normative writing compensated for through linked and advanced courses.
In spite of those strengths, however, writing education of Sook myung Women’s University does have some limitations including weakening “authorship” and being inclined toward “textualism”. In addition, it excessively generalizes “writing-centric” text structure analysis and the logical structure based on it. It is thus needed to search for ways to reinforce “authorship” beyond accepting and internalizing academic discourse onesidedly. It is also necessary to expand the medium as text in diverse manners and broaden the reading and writing model to interdisciplinary and emotional insights. It is in that context that writing as social practice is emphasized.
It has grown more important to realize the reality of college writing education that has entered a new phase and make preparations for solidarity and practice. Now is the time for solidarity and practice. The objectives of solidarity are establishing an academic identity called college writing(or writing) and setting up a virtuous cycle structure of quality professional cultivation and educational system rather than sharing positions. In that sense, the significance and limitations of writing education of Sookmyung Women’s University offers significant indexes.
