트랜스미디어 방법론을 이용한 무용 기록 방안에 대한 연구 - 살풀이 춤 무보집의 사례를 토대로 (Applying Transmedia Methodology to Recording Korean Traditional Dance - A Case Study of the Records of Salpuri Notation)

초록

무용 기록은 수많은 시행착오와 연구를 거듭하여 지금에 이르렀다. 하지만 아직도 대중적으로 통용될 수 있는 기록법이 완성되지 못하고 있는 실정이다. 특히 한국의 전통춤을 기록함에 있어서는 서양의 표기법으로도 만족되지 못하는 부분들이 존재한다. 전통춤의 섬세함을 담아내고 보존해 나가는 것이 우리의 정신을 담아내고 이어가는 문화유산이 될 것임은 자명하다. 따라서 무용 기록법은 끊임없이 연구되고 발전시켜 완성되어야 할 분야이다. 이에 본 연구는 기존의 필름 기록법, 자모식 무용 표기법, 라반 표기법, 모션 캡처를 이용한 무용 기록법들을 살펴보고, 장·단점을 구분하여 새로운 전통춤의 기록법을 연구하였다. 특히 급속도로 발전하는 디지털 미디어의 발달을 기록학계에 도입하여 영구 보존되고 그 가치가 변질되지 않도록 춤을 기록하는 것은 무엇보다 중요하다. 이점을 목적으로 본 연구는 조흥동류의 중부살풀이 춤을 무보화하는 작업의 사례를 토대로 트랜스미디어 방법론을 활용하여 새롭게 기록되어지는 방식을 제안하였다. 기존의 무보집 방식인 활자화된 평면적 이미지를 벗어나서 결과물은 책으로 만들어지지만 그 안의 이미지와 내용은 3차원의 데이터들을 모두 담아내는 입체적인 무보집을 추구하였다. 즉 디지털 기술을 복합적이고 유기적으로 사용해야하는 트랜스미디어 방법론을 이용하여 춤 동작 하나하나를 시각 정보로 보고 정보디자인을 통해 무보집 전체를 시각화하였다. 또한 동작의 정확한 기록만이 아니라 기록된 동작을 사용자가 쉽게 동작으로 재구성 할 수 있도록 무용동작을 시각적으로 보여주는 방법에 중점을 두었다. 그러기 위한 방법으로 현재 상존하는 미디어 기술의 효율적인 활용으로 시각데이터의 기록과 분해, 재조합을 통하여 무보집이 새로운 방식의 커뮤니케이션을 가능하게 하였다. 결과적으로 본 연구는 기존의 무보 작업의 형식을 시각적 표현 방법에 초점을 두고 전체적인 작품을 시간의 흐름으로 재해석한 것이다. 물론 본 연구와 같은 방식이 무용 기록법의 완성이라고 확언할 수 없지만, 제한된 조건 하에서 춤의 기록에 대한 기본적인 아이디어가 결과물을 통해 보여 질 수 있었고 디지털미디어를 통한 춤의 기록을 위한 기본적인 정보구조와 시각화 방법에 대한 다양한 실험을 할 수 있었다. 앞으로 더 많은 연구가 필요하며 무보의 제작과 관련하여 독무의 전통춤 뿐 아니라 군무로 구성되어지는 민속무용까지도 기록 할 수 있는 방법 등에 대해서도 연구되어야 할 것이다.

영어초록

Records of dance have been developed by trial and errors and various studies, but a dance notation that can be used popularly has not been provided. On recording Korean traditional dances in particular, there are many parts that cannot be satisfied with western dance notation. It is obvious that recording and preserving the delicacy of Korean traditional dances would be our cultural heritage for expressing and continuing our spirits. This is why dance notation is a domain that should be completed by incessant studies and developments. In this context, the purpose of this study is to investigate various methods of dance notation including the existing film recording, Ja-mo (using Korean consonants and vowels) dance notation, Laban notation, and dance notation by using motion capture, and to research a new measure of recoding traditional dances via comparing their merits and demerits. Recording dances is critical by introducing digital media being rapidly developed into the recording for permanent preservation and without deterioration of its values. For doing this, the authors in this study provided new measure of recording by using transmedia methodology based on the cases in which Jungboo Salpuri dance in Cho Heung Dong style was recorded by dance notation. Although the results were made as a book, the images and contents contained three-dimensional data out of the existing style of dance notation of texts and plane images. In other words, the authors used transmedia methodology in which digital techniques are used complicatedly and organically and individual dancing actions are regarded as visual information, and visualize the whole Records of dance notation via information design. Also, the authors focused methods of showing dancing actions visually not only to record the actions accurately but for users to easily reorganize the recorded actions. For doing this, the authors enabled the records of dance notation to function as a new method of communication via record, analysis, and recombination of visual data by efficient utilization of the existing media techniques. Conclusively, the results of this study were a reinterpretation of the forms of the existing dance notation working when a measure of visual expression are focused and the whole dancing is considered to be a flow of time. Although it may not be stated that the measure provided in this study is a complete one for dance notation, the basic idea on recording dance was realized under limited conditions as a concrete result and the authors could conduct various experiments on the basic information structure and methods of visualization via digital media. Further studies are necessary to research measures of recording not only traditional solo dances but folk group dances on the production of dance notation.
