화성재인청류 살풀이춤의 구조와 미적 특성 (The Structure and Aesthetical Characteristics of Wha-Sung Jae-In Chung Salpuri-choom)

The purpose of this study was to provide the theoretical foundation of the research of Jae-In-Chung Salpuri-choom by analyzing the structures and formalities of the dance and by deducing the aesthetical characteristics of the dance steps. Despite dance historical and artistic value, the 8th Gyeong-gido intangible cultural asset, Wha-Sung Jae-In-Chung salpuri-choom has not been well known to the dance world and general population until now. For this study, we performed literature research and image analysis and examined the origin of Wha-Sung Jae-In-Chung Salpuri-choom, dance costumes, dance tools, instrument composition, tunes, and the composition of dance steps of each tune. Furthermore, we studied the outward structure and internal aesthetical characteristics in it. In this study, it was found that Wha-Sung Jae-In-Chung salpuri-choom has the aesthetical characteristics of the sentiment expressed by music, the form of dance steps through the cloth in both hands and the background folktale reflecting the dance structure and inner side. Salpuri-choom, one of the Wha-Sung Jae-In-Chung dances, secures its legitimacy of dances produced from a state institution which is called Jae-In-Chung and shows the harmony between manhood and womanhood of Lee Dong-an’s dance in which dance steps are stable and straightforward. Salpuri-choom holds musical entreaty, which is, the emotion of deep resentment and contains the nationalistic emotion which people are trying to overcome through the dance. The cloth in both hands circulates the conflicting world, like life and death, this world and the afterlife, etc. into one and the sustain ability of life by exorcising misfortune through the cloth dance steps. Sustaining the structure of the entire dance and the inner side is the background folktale transmitted by Chung Kyoung-pa and the stories of the folktale are creating an overall aesthetical structure of the dance. It is hoped that this study will give younger generations an opportunity to increase the understanding and an interest in Wha-Sung Jae-In-Chung salpuri-choom. In addition, through this research, it was found that its features and aesthetical characteristics of salpuri-choom, depending on regions and groups, were distinct, and it is expected that active and in-depth research regarding traditional dance, upholding universality and regional characteristics, will continue in the future.
