온라인 공간의 비자살적 자해 연구 동향 (Research Trends on Non-suicidal Self-Injury in Online Space)

초록

목적 온라인 공간의 비자살적 자해(Non-suicidal Self-Injury, NSSI)에 대한 국내외 연구 동향, 성과 및 한계를 분석하고 효과적인 치료 개입 방법 및 후속 연구 방향을 제시한다.
방법 학술 포털 사이트 RISS, ScienceOn, ScienceDirect, Google SCHOLAR에서 1차로 ‘비자살적 자해’, ‘Non-suicide Self-Injury’라는 키워드로 검색을 실시하고, 2차적으로 ‘인터넷’, ‘온라인’, ‘sns’, ‘internet’, ‘online’, ‘social media’ 키워드로 결과 내 재검색을 하였고, 검색 결과를 토대로 이후 연구의 목적에 부합하지 않는 논문을 제외하고 연구자 편향 배제를 위한 감수 과정을 거쳐 논문 22편을 선정하였다. 선정된 논문은 국가별 연구 동향, 연구 대상의 특성, 연구 방법론에 따라 분류하고 연구 결과를선행연구의 분석틀을 참고하여 보호 요인과 위험 요인, 치료⋅예방 개입 방안으로 분류하였다.
결과 온라인 공간의 비자살적 자해에 대한 연구는 캐나다에서 가장 많이 이루어졌으며, 연구 대상은 NSSI 관련 콘텐츠가 주를 이루었다. 연구방법에서는 양적연구가 7편, 질적연구가 15편이었다. 연구 주제는 온라인 공간에서 이루어지는 활동이 가장 많았다. 연구의 주요 결과를 분석하여 도출한 위험 요인은 타당화, 비자살적 자해 관련 정보 습득, 관심 욕구 충족, 온라인 소통의 부정적인 영향, 동질 집단의 영향, 트리거 기능 등으로 밝혀졌다. 보호 요인은 비자살적 자해 충동의 완화와 행동 중단, 회복을 위한 도구로 활용, 정서적 지지 획득, 회복에 대한 희망 고취, 도움 요청의 창구, 타인 도움을 위한 정보 획득이었다. 치료⋅예방 개입 방안은 상담과예방 교육 장면에서 온라인 공간의 특수성을 이해하고 활용하는 것의 필요성과 정보를 제공하는 플랫폼 차원의 노력이 언급되었다.
결론 연구 결과를 토대로 온라인 공간의 비자살적 자해 활동에 대한 상담적 개입 방안과 예방 방법을 제안하였고 후속 연구에 대한제언을 제시하였다.

영어초록

Objectives The purposes of this study is to analyze domestic and foreign research trends, achievements, and limitations on non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) in the online space, and to seek the therapeutic intervention methods and the direction of future NSSI research.
Methods First, a search was conducted with the keywords ‘non-suicide self-injury’ in the academic portal sites RISS, ScienceOn, ScienceDirect, and Google SCHOLAR. Secondary search was conducted within the results with the keywords ‘internet’, ‘online’, and ‘social media’. Based on the search results, 22 papers were selected through a review process to exclude researcher bias, excluding papers that did not meet the purpose of the study. Papers classified in terms of research trends by country, characteristics of research subjects, and research methodologies, and the research results were classified into protective factors, risk factors, and treatment and prevention intervention methods by referring to the analysis framework of previous studies.
Results Research on non-suicide self-harm in the online space was the most conducted in Canada, and the subject of the study was NSSI-related contents. For the methods, there were 7 quantitative studies and 15 qualitative studies. As for the research topic, NSSI related activities in online space were the most common. Risk factors in online NSSI-related studies were summarized as validation, acquisition of information related to non-suicidal self-injury, satisfaction of interest, negative effects of online communication, effects of homogeneous groups, and trigger functions. And the protective factors were relief of non-suicidal self-injury impulses, cessation of behavior, use as a tool for recovery, acquisition of emotional support, promotion of hope for recovery, window for requesting help, and acquisition of information for helping others. As for the treatment and prevention intervention, the necessity of understanding and utilizing the specificity of the online space in the counseling and prevention education scene and efforts at the online platform were mentioned.
Conclusions Based on the research results, therapeutic intervention and prevention methods for NSSI activities in online space were proposed, and direction for follow-up studies were suggested.
