朝鮮前期 智異山 遊記 발생에 관한 短見 (A Short View Regarding the Appearance of Jirisan Mountain Hiking Records in the Early Joseon Dynasty Period)

초록

본고는 지리산 유산문학 연구의 선행 과정을 점검하고, 거칠게나마 새로운 연구시각을 제시하고자 기획되었다. 다만, 시기는 국내 유산기가 발생하는 15세기에 한해 살펴보았다. ‘15세기’인 이유는, 국내 각 산의 유산기가 이 시기 지리산에서 나타나고, 16세기에 이르면 이미 유산이 일반화될 뿐만 아니라 선현의 유산을 답습하는 관행이 나타나기 때문이다.
지리산 유산문학의 선행연구는 대개 ‘산과 유람자’의 이중구조에서 산이 아닌 오르는 유람자의 의식에 맞추어 진행되었다. 그 결과 서로 다른 산이고 오르는 유람자의 개인차에도 불구하고, 각 산의 유산문학 연구는 유람자인 조선조 士人의 士意識을 해명하는 대동소이한 결론에 이르렀음을 확인하였다. 그리고 이의 해결방안으로 유람자가 아닌 ‘그 산’에 집중하는 새로운 연구시각의 필요성을 제기하였다.
나아가 본고에서는 15세기 지리산 유기를 중심으로 이의 해답을 찾아보았다. 곧 지리산의 ‘무엇’이 당시 지식인을 지리산으로 이끌었나를 살핀 것인데, 대략 두 가지로 제시하였다. 첫째, 지리산은 신라 시대부터 줄곧 南嶽으로서의 위상과 神聖性을 지켜온 국내 유일의 명산이다. 五嶽 중 여타 명산은 시대가 흘러오면서 바뀌었지만, 지리산만큼은 남악으로서의 명성을 고수해 왔고, 게다가 금강산 등과 달리 내 가까이에 있는 지역의 명산이라는 점에서 더욱 의의를 찾을 수 있었다. 둘째, 지리산은 인간의 삶과 맞닿은 국내 유일의 명산이다. ‘산과 사람’의 관점에서 보아, 민간의 삶과 밀접하게 닿아있는 산은 지리산뿐이라 해도 과언이 아니다. 지리산은 그 아래 사는 사람들의 삶의 터전이었고, 따라서 우리 국토와 그 속에서 살아가는 인간 삶을 이해하려는 당대 지식인의 의식이 발현된 유일한 산이라 할 수 있다. 이 두 가지는 지리산만의 특징이고, 이런 점들이 당대 지식인을 지리산으로 불러들인 것이라 하겠다.

영어초록

This paper was planned to examine the preceding process of studies on Jirisan Mountain hiking literature and to present a new study perspective, albeit roughly. However, as for the period, only the Jirisan Mountain hiking records in the 15th century when the domestic famous mountain hiking records appeared were examined. The reason for the ‘15th century’ and ‘Jirisan Mountain’ is that the domestic famous mountain hiking records appeared intensively in this period. For your reference, in the 16th century, not only mountain hiking became popular already but also the practice to follow ancient sages’ mountain hiking appeared.
Previous studies on Jirisan Mountain hiking literature were generally conducted according to the consciousness of hikers, not the mountain, in the dual structure of 'mountain and hiker'. As a result, it was confirmed that, despite the different mountains and the individual differences among hikers that climbed the mountains, the studies on the mountain hiking for each mountain reached the same conclusion to elucidate the scholarly consciousness of the intellectuals of the Joseon Dynasty who were the hikers. As a solution to this problem, the necessity of a new study perspective focusing on 'the mountain' rather than the hikers was raised.
Furthermore, in this paper, the solution was searched, focusing on the 15th century Jirisan Mountain hiking records. That is, ‘what’ of Jirisan Mountain led the intellectuals of the time to Jirisan Mountain was examined, and roughly two things were presented. First, Jirisan Mountain is the only famous mountain in Korea that has maintained its status and sanctity as a southern mountain since the Silla period. Other famous mountains among the five mountains have been changed over the years, but Jirisan Mountain has maintained its status as a southern mountain, and, unlike Geumgangsan Mountain, etc., it is more meaningful in that it is a famous mountain in the area close to us. Second, Jirisan Mountain is the only famous mountain in South Korea that touches human life. When seen from the point of view of ‘mountain and people’, it is no exaggeration to say that Jirisan Mountain is the only mountain in close contact with civilian life. Jirisan Mountain was the living foundation of the people living under it, and therefore, it can be said that it is the only mountain where the consciousness of the intellectuals of the time to understand our land and the life of humans living in it was expressed. These two characteristics are unique to Jirisan Mountain, and it can be said that these points brought the intellectuals of the time to Jirisan Mountain.
