退溪詩의 空間認識과 山水觀 (Spatial Awareness and Perspective on Nature in Toegye’s Poems)

초록

이 논문은 退溪詩에 나타난 空間 認識과 山水觀을 美學的으로 해석하고 연구하였다. 퇴계는 미학에 대해 직접적으로 언급하거나 저술을 남기지 않았다. 그러나 퇴계는 자신의 철학을 학문적으로 체계화 하여 「聖學十圖」 등을 완성하였다. 이것은 미학이 철학의 하위 영역이기 때문에 퇴계철학을 원용하여 그 이론화를 가능하게 하였다. 따라서 이 논문의 미학적 접근이란 방법론의 실효성과 근거제시가 좀 더 분명하게 되었다.
퇴계의 공간인식은 구체적으로 자연이라는 객관적 대상이며 물리의 세계에 대한 지각과 인식을 말한다. 그리고 자연은 氣의 실현에 의한 구체적 형상을 지닌 존재적 가치를 함유하고 있다. 이 자연이 예술의 소재로 활용되어 시작품이란 예술형식으로 구체화 되었을 때 산수미를 표상하게 된다. 그래서 산수관은 예술적 대상으로 인식한 자연의 미적 위상을 의미한다.
이런 관점에서 퇴계시의 공간인식과 산수관은 생활의 근거이자 생태적 환경인 自然을 객관적 대상으로 한다. 나아가 객관적 대상인 자연으로서의 환경에 퇴계의 주관적 인식과 가치가 결합되어 문화경관을 형성하게 되니, 大我認識의 생활공간이 천인합일의 산수관으로 발전하게 된다. 또 퇴계시에 나타난 수양실천을 위한 장소로서의 공간인식은, 구체적 작품에서 역사적 시간성이 현재적 공간성으로 전환됨으로써 稽古親賢의 실재적 산수관으로 발전하였다.
마지막으로 퇴계시에서 노래하는 자연은 우주적 관점으로 확산되며, 인간과 대자연과의 관계 속에서 인생과 철리의 깨달음에 대한 감동을 형상화하였다. 그 결과 山水歌詠의 소재요 대상으로서의 공간인식은, 시작품이란 예술형식을 통해, 대자연의 조화와 질서에 동참(與天同和)하는 山水觀으로 승화하게 되었다.

영어초록

Toegye’s ideal was in learning and nature. He explained theories based on Li(rational principle, 理) and Qi(material force, 氣). His belief was closed related to ethics. He contemplated the roots of universal rules about human action as the nature’s universal rule or Li(理) can be perceived by human consciousness.
First, the roots and universal rule of human action are the same as the universal rules of natural phenomena when all of the natural phenomena are considered as works of Qi(氣). Therefore, ethics is the ethical value conversion of the universal rule, Li(理).
Second, the ground for Toegye’s theory of mind is universal truth by the natural philosophical observation and insight. Therefore, he perceived that the historical temporality was connected to and coexists with nowness. The nowness can be found in life of realizing nature, and this is the boundary of the oneness of God and man.
Third, the oneness of God and man perceived realization of great cause as the best value. This can be called “beauty of ideology(理念美)” that means return to original existence, love for nature and life in seclusion. Therefore, the oneness of God and man was Toegye’s outlook on the universe and the world and love for nature.
Fourth, restoration of ancient text(古文復古) was to restore ancient sages’ life to suggest realistic examples. At the same time, it is the source of universal cultural heritage, a part of mythic original form, and the exploration for essence of roots.
Fifth, Toegye suggested prototype of learning in his book Seonghaksipdo(聖學十圖). The book encouraged readers to improve themselves physically and mentally by talking about ancient sages’ life that symbolizes restoration of oneness with ancient sages through ideological sublimation and internal subjectivization.
Sixth, Toegye’s poem composition under the theme of nature was artistic activity that gave shape to his ideology with nature as mediation. He could realize his ideal of seclusion through oneness with environment, which contributed to development of imaginary art.
Seventh, Toegye’s subjective world pioneered aesthetic boundary of humanization of nature and naturalization of human. Therefore, he sang boundary of laws of nature that participate in roots of all things in the universe with nature. This is the aesthetic status of the originary enlightenment that consists of perspectives on nature. Toegye’s love for nature represents the beauty of ideology(理念美) of the philosophic world that his poems about nature and the assimilation with nature described.
