발해 유민사 관련 고고학 자료의 검토 (Review of Archeological Remains about the History of Balhae Descendants)

초록

근래에 들어 발해 고고학의 연구성과는 괄목할 만하다. 발해 고고학과 관련된 다수의 개별 논문은물론이고 저서, 발굴보고서의 출간이 이어지고 있다. 그럼에도 발해 멸망 이후의 유민사와 관련된 고고학적인 연구 성과는 아직도 눈에 띄지 않는다. 물론 올야성(兀惹城)의 위치를 찾아보려는 약간의 노력이 엿보이기도 하나 발해 유민사라는 입장에서 접근한 고고학 연구 성과를 찾기는 힘들다. 이에 발해 유민사와 관련된 고고학 자료의 정리와 검토가 필요한 시점이라고 생각돼 이 글을 작성하였다.
발해사도 마찬가지지만 발해 유민사 연구에서 고고학 자료의 가치는 남다르다. 갑자기 새로운 사서가 발견되지 않는 한 소략한 문헌자료를 보완할 방법은 현실적으로 고고학의 도움밖에 없기 때문이다.
러시아와 몽골 학자들이 공동으로 발굴한 몽골의 Chintolgoi 성 유적에서 발해 유민이 멀리 몽골 지역에까지 끌려가 발해인의 우수한 기술을 거란에 전수한 역사적 사실을 고고자료로 확인할 수 있었다.
러시아 Koksharovka-1 평지성 유적 역시 발해가 멸망한 뒤 안변부의 유민들이 반요(反遼) 투쟁을 계속 이어가면서 상경의 태묘(太廟)를 모방해 설치했던 건물지일 가능성 제기돼 고고자료의 중요성이다시 부각되었다.
발해 유민사 및 그와 관련된 고고자료에 대해서는 동아시아 각국들이 많은 관심을 갖고 주의 깊게바라보고 있다. 앞으로 더 많은 고고 발굴, 조사와 출토유물에 대한 정치한 분석을 통해 유민사가 체계적으로 정리돼야 할 것이다. 특히 발해 부흥운동의 주요 활동 근거지였던 중국에서의 유민 관련 고고조사 및 발굴이 활발히 진행돼 연구 성과가 더 많이 공개되기를 기대한다.

영어초록

Recently the archeological achievement on the history of Balhae has been astonishng. With the excavational reports in China on the capital city of Balhae, the history of Balhae came to be understood much better. The joint excavation of a Korean and Russian team which has been made for 20 years has more meaningful.
The joint work on the archeological sites of Balhae has made some affirmative effects on academic exchange. In this respect, the publication of the book, 『The Research on the socio-cultural history of Balhae』, which was written by Song, Kiho with the help of a number of archeological surveys, is very inspiring to the research of Balhae history.
Despite those remarkable advancements in the history of Balhae, the archeological achievements on the history of the descendants of Balhae can be hardly found out.
The possibility of finding the remains of the descendants is considered high in that the revival movement of the descendants of Balhae had been made for about 200 years. It is considered to be the right time to make an arrangement and examination on the research which is related to the history of the descendants of Balhae. The object of this survey is to search for the archeological remains related to the history of the descendants of Balhae.
The archeological relics found in the process of research on the history of Balhae descendants as well as Balhae itself have exclusive value. This is because few documentary records about Balhae are available and the only method to complement them comes from archeological facts, which is proven through the relics of the Chintolgoi fortress, Emgent fortress, and Koksharovka-1 fortress located in Primorsky Krai, Russia. Besides these fortresses, some more archeological sites and relics can be included to support the decisive importance of archeological facts for the establishment of the history of Balhae and its descendants.
Here are some noteworthy things in the research process of archeological materials related with the history of the descendants of Balhae. First, it is not so simple to pinpoint the exact sites and relics related to Balhae descendants among diverse historical remains mixed with some cultural categories. Second, the archeological research scope on the history of Balhae descendants is far more comprehensive that of the history of Balhae. Third, when the archeological materials in Primorsky Krai in Russia are studied, the fact that Russia was geographically a part of the border area of the past Balhae should be considered. Primosky Krai is not the place where the descendants of Balhae were forced to migrate and developed the revival movement of Balhae as well.
Archeological excavations and their findings related to the history of Balhae descendants are being considered very seriously by most of the East Asian countries.
In the near future, more archeological excavations and researches need to be carried out and the relics of these processes also need to be arranged more systematically through the analytical work. Especially more archeological research works on the history of Balhae descendants are expected to be reported to the neighboring countries by China where the revival movement of Balhae descendants was mostly made.
