도마복음의 구성사에 관한 연구 (On the Compositional History of the Gospel of Thomas)

초록

이 논문의 목적은 도마복음의 구성사 중에서 특히 그 기원을 밝히려는것이다. 필자는 이를 위해 평생 탁월한 콥트어 전문가로서의 식견과 경험을 토대로 일반적으로 주목받지 못하는 도마복음의 난제(aporiae)를 분석함으로써 도마복음의 기원에 대한 실마리를 찾아간다. 이 과정에서 필자는도마복음에 들어있는 난해한 말씀에 대해 최선의 대안을 제시하며 도마복음에 대한 이해를 높인다. 그 중에서 필자가 가장 주목하는 것은 도마복음 안에 하나 더 있는 “나”라는 문제인데, 바로 이 문제에서 필자는 다른모든 난제를 해명할 수 있다고 생각한다. 이를 통해 필자는 한 개인이 기독교 공동체의 구전을 기록함으로써 도마복음이 작성되었다던가, 이렇게작성된 말씀의 작은 모음을 저자나 편집자가 수정하고 재배치한 것으로상상할 수 없다고 하며, Q와는 달리 도마복음은 인용문의 모음집, 말씀모음집이기보다는 예수의 말씀을 연속으로 발췌한 것이라고 추측한다. 더구체적으로 필자는 도마복음의 “저자”가 파피아스(Papias)가 기록한 것으로전해지는 주님의 말씀에 대한 해석과 같은 작품에서 주님의 말씀만을 발췌하면서, 기존의 주석을 제거하기도 하고 새로운 주석을 첨가하기도 하면서, 기존 주석의 틀에서 벗어나 그 말씀을 새롭게 배치하려 시도함으로써 발전의 과정을 뒤집으려 했으며, 이러한 과정에서 기존 주석의 흔적을지우는 것을 소홀히 한 것이라고 생각한다. 이러한 논의의 부수적인 결과로 필자는 도마복음의 저작 시기를 파피아스가 활동했던 시기에 근접하고, 도마복음 말씀 68:2의 내용을 “사후 예언(vaticinium ex eventu)"으로 이해하여 서기 135년 바르 코흐바(Bar Kochba) 반란 직후로 추정한다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study is to clarify the origins of the compositional history of the Gospel of Thomas. To this end, the author searches for clues about the origin of the Gospel of Thomas by analyzing the aporiae of the Gospel of Thomas, which is not generally noticed, based on the insight and experience of an outstanding Coptic expert throughout his life. In this process, the author suggests the best alternative to the esoteric words contained in the Gospel of Thomas and enhances the understanding of the Gospel of Thomas. Among them, the one “I” pay attention to is the one more “I” in the Gospel of Thomas, and in this very question, the author thinks that all other difficulties can be clarified. Through this, the author says that it is impossible to imagine that the Gospel of Thomas was written by an individual writing the oral traditions of the Christian community, or that a small collection of words written in this way was revised and rearranged by the author or editor. Rather than a collection of words, it is assumed that it is a series of excerpts from the words of Jesus. More specifically, the author extracted only the words of the Lord from the works such as the interpretation of the words of the Lord that the “author” of the Gospel of Thomas is said to have been written by Papias, and removed the existing comments and added new comments. In the meantime, the author tried to overturn the process of development by trying to relocate the word out of the frame of the existing commentary, and he thinks that it was neglected to erase the traces of the existing commentary in this process. As a side effect of these discussions, He approached the time when Papias was active in the writing of the Gospel of Thomas, and understood the content of Thomas 68:2 as a “vaticinium ex eventu”. It is presumed to be right after the Bar Kochba rebellion.
