북한문학사와 고려속악가사 (Literary History of the North Korea and Their Viewpoint about Goryeo-Sogakgasa)

초록

이 논문은 고려속악가사(이하 ‘고려속가’로 약칭)에 대한 북한문학사의 해석과 이념적 지향성을 분석한 결과다. 표면적으로 볼 때 고려속가는 민중의 노래다. 그러나 고려속가가 궁중에 도입, 궁중악으로 개작된 이상, 그것들을 지배계층 노래의 한 부분으로 볼 수도 있다. 사실 국문학 연구가 시작된 이래 남북한의 학자들은 그 담당계층을 ‘민중’으로 보는 오류를 범했다. 상당수의 남한 학자들은 그것들을 ‘속요’라 하여 대중가요와 같은 부류로 보고 있다. 물론 그것이 ‘속악’인 이상 우리의 전통적 정서나 고유의 노래 관습으로부터 자유롭지 못한 것은 사실이다. 그렇다 해도 곡조와 가사가 통합된 실체로서의 고려속가가 액면 그대로 민중의 것은 아니다. 따라서 적어도 고려속가에 대해서만큼은 북한의 학자들이 비교적 온당한 견해를 갖고 있는 듯하다. 물론 주제 해석에서 지나치게 이념 중심적인 논리를 펴고 있는 점은 흠이라 할 수 있으나, 고려속가들이 ‘곡조와 가사의 통합체’라는 전제 위에서 논리를 전개했고, 그런 전제로부터 담당계층ㆍ형태ㆍ미학 등에 관하여 비교적 타당한 결론을 도출했다는 점은 두드러진다.
북한의 학자들은 도시의 평민층, 특히 여인들과 일부 봉건 관료들, 그리고 이름을 알 수 없는 사람들을 고려속가의 담당계층으로 꼽았다. 특히 사회적으로 천대를 당하던 당대 직업 예술인들을 포함하여 도시의 평민들 혹은 더 나아가 작자계층의 한 부분을 차지하던 여성들이 현실에 대한 불만과 불평을 노래에 표현했으며, 그것은 특정 계층에 국한되지 않고 보다 광범한 사회계층에 확산됨으로써 주제의 확장은 물론 내용의 다양성이나 복잡성을 보여주게 되었다는 것이 그들의 생각이다. 존재양상이나 형태의 면에서 그들은 고려속가를 분명한 노래로 파악함으로써 시종일관 시문학의 관점에서만 보려는 남한의 학자들보다 정확한 인식태도를 보여주었다.
그러나 북한의 학자들은 그들이 속해있던 체제의 한계를 벗어날 수 없었던 만큼 고려속가의 주제나 이념을 해석하는 문제에서는 어쩔 수 없는 한계를 노출했다. 노래들의 화자를 ‘봉건 통치 집단으로부터 지배를 당하는 무산계급 인민들’로, 노래되는 내용이나 주제를 ‘봉건 통치배들에 대한 저항이나 투쟁’으로 보는 것이 북한 학자들의 일반적인 관점이다. 고려속가와 같이 아무리 오래 된 노래들일지라도 그것들은 자신들이 현재와 미래에 이룩해야 할 ‘혁명과업’의 수단으로 존재해 왔다는 것이다. 그들이 담당계층이나 장르의 현실적 존재양상을 객관 타당하게 파악하고 있다 해도, 이면적 의미를 해석하는데 있어서 이념적 경직성을 벗어나지 못하는 한 恣意的일 수밖에 없다. 이 점이 바로 고려속가에 대한 북한문학사의 해석이 보여주는 한계이자, 남북한 학자들이 격의 없는 대화를 통해 풀어가야 할 현실적인 문제점이다.

This study was producted from researching about North Korea's viewpoint of Goryeo-Sogakgasa(abbreviation : Goryeo-Sog'ga), centering around their interpretation and ideological directivity. Outwardly, Goryeo-Sog'ga is a genre of popular songs. However, once the songs were introduced into the Royal Court and revised as their court music, we can't help regarding Goryeo-Sog'ga genre as music of the ruling class at that time. Actually, since researching about the Korean literature has been started, South and North Korean scholars made a mistake to regard the class in charge of Goryeo-Sog'ga genre as mass of the people. Especially most of the South Korean scholars call it Goryeo-Sogyo. It means that they regard it as something like popular song genre. Since it is Sog'ak, it is true that we are not free from our traditional emotion or peculiar singing custom. Although it is true, the Goryeo-Sog'ga genre as synthetic body of tune and lyric is not masses' property at its face value. Only about Goryeo-Sog'ga genre at least, North Korean scholars have comparatively reasonable opinions. Of course, we can say it is a kind of defect that they spread their ideology-centered interpretation. However, they developed their logic on the presupposition that Goryeo-Sog'ga genre is a synthetic body of tune and lyric, and drew a comparatively proper conclusion about the class in charge, form, and aesthetics, from the presupposition. The North Korean scholars took a count of the class of common people in a city, especially women and some old fashioned officials, and anonymous people as the class in charge of Goryeo-Sog'ga genre. Above all the classes, the common people including professional artists treated contemptuously at that time and women occupied in the class in charge disclosed their dissatisfaction and complaint about social reality into their songs. Their dissatisfaction and complaint expressed in the songs were disseminated throughout all classes. Recognition attitude of North Korean scholars who regarded Goryeo-Sog'ga genre as songs clearly is more accurate than South Korean scholars. But North Korean scholars disclosed their limits when they interpreted the themes and ideology of Goryeo-Sog'gas, because they couldn't get out of the limits from their ruling system. It is North Korean scholars' general viewpoints is to interpret the speaker in the songs as proletariats, and song's contents and themes as struggles and fights against the old-fashioned officials. However old any songs like Goryeo-Sog'ga may be, they have existed as a mean of revolution task for themselves to accomplish right now or in the future. Although they understand real aspect of their existent being properly, interpretation about inside meaning of the songs can't help being arbitrary. This is a limit of literary histories of the North Korea about Goryeo-Sog'ga, as well as a real problem that North and South Korean scholars have to solve through frank dialogues.
