초록

북한 역사학계는 해방 이후 식민주의 역사학의 극복과 과학적인 조선사 체계를 세우려고 했으며, 한국전쟁을 경과하면서 과학원 력사연구소를 중심으로 본격적인 연구를 시작할수 있었다. 그러나 전쟁과 전후 복구 시기였던 박시형 소장 체제에서는 이렇다할 성과를 내놓지 못했다. 1956년 1월 김석형이 소장으로 임명되고, 1956년 8월 전원회의 사건과 1957 년 김일성종합대학 및 과학원에서 전개된 반종파투쟁의 여파로 대다수의 근현대사 연구자들이 숙청되면서 북한의 역사학계는 새로운 전기를 맞이한다.
가장 먼저 사회경제 구성에 입각한 조선사의 기원과 시대구분 문제를 해결하는데 집중하여 고대를 삼국시대 이전으로 획정하고, 곧이어 고조선의 중심지와 영역 문제에 대한 논의를 마무리하였다. 비슷한 시기에 박시형의 발해사 연구도 이루어진다. 이 과정 속에서 고조선-부여-고구려-발해로 이어지는 조선사 체계를 완성했으며, 해방 후 오랜 과제였던 식민사관 극복을 위한 고대 조일 관계와 광개토왕비에 대한 새로운 연구 성과들도 내놓았다.
고조선-부여-고구려-발해로 이어지는 조선사 체계를 뒷받침하기 위해서는 중국 동북지역(만주)의 조사 연구가 필요했는데, 마침 소련과의 대립 과정에서 북한의 지지가 필요했던 중국은 공동 조사연구(1963~1965)를 승인했다. 이 조사연구는 과학원 고고학 및 민속학연구소 소장인 도유호가 배제된 채 김석형의 주도로 진행되었으며, 박시형·리지린·림건상· 주영헌·김용간·황기덕 등이 참여했다. 이 조사연구를 토대로 만주를 조선 고대사 체계 속으로 편입시킬 수 있었던 것이다.
이와 같은 조선 고대사 체계가 정립되는 이면에는 남로당계와 연안계·소련계의 연이은숙청과 만주파의 승리가 놓여 있었다. 특히 8월 전원회의 사건과 반종파투쟁 이후 혁명전통을 만주 빨치산 투쟁으로 일원화시키면서 ‘만주’를 표상으로 하는 전일적인 조선사 체계가구축될 수 있었던 것이다. 이제 만주는 조선민주주의인민공화국 역사의 기원이자 현재로서, 조선사와 혁명전통의 표상으로 자리매김한다.

영어초록

The circles of historical studies in North Korea tried to overcome colonial historical studies and establish a scientific system of Joseon history after Liberation. Going through the Korean War, they were able to conduct full-pledged researches around the History Research Institute under the Science Academy. They failed to produce mentionable results under the leadership of Director Park Si-hyeong when post-war restoration efforts were made following the war. In January, 1956, Kim Seok-hyeong was appointed as Director. There was the plenary meeting event in August, 1956. The anti-sectarian struggle unfolded at Kim Il-sung University and the Science Academy in 1957. The aftermath of these events saw a majority of modern and contemporary historians purged, which meant that the circles of historical studies faced a new turning point.
They first focused on addressing the origin of Joseon history and the issue of period division based on the social economy organization, demarcating ancient times before the period of Three Kingdoms and then wrapping up discussions about the central place and territorial issue of Gojoseon right away. Park Si-hyeong conducted researches on the history of Balhae during a similar period, in which process the system of Joseon history from Gojoseon through Buyeo and Goguryeo to Balhae was completed. New research achievements were also unveiled regarding ancient Joseon-Japan relations and the tomb of King Gwanggaeto to overcome the colonial view of history that was an old task after Liberation.
They needed to conduct a research study on the northeastern part(Manchuria) of China to support the system of Joseon history from Gojoseon through Buyeo and Goguryeo to Balhae. China needed support from North Korea during its confronta-tion with the Soviet Union at that time and accordingly gave approval for a joint research study(1963~1965), which was led by Kim Seok-hyeong with the exclusion of Do Yu-ho as the Head of Archeology at Science Academy and Director of Folklore Research Institute. Park Si-hyeong, Lee Ji-rin, Im Geon-sang, Ju Yeong-heon, Kim Yong-gan, and Hwang Gi-deok participated in it. Based on this research study, they were able to incorporate Manchuria into the ancient history system of Joseon.
There were successive purges of the Namrodang line and the Yeonan and Soviet line and the victory of the Manchuria faction behind the establishment of the ancient history system of Joseon. They identified the revolutionary tradition with the North Korean partisan struggle in Manchuria after the plenary meeting event in August and the anti-sectarian struggle, thus establishing the holistic system of Joseon history whose representation was “Manchuria”. Manchuria was then established as the origin and present of the history of Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and the representation of Joseon history and revolutionary tradition.
