『신문학사』와 『한국문학사』의 서술 방법론 비교 연구 (A Comparative Study of Methodology in Description of the New Literary History and History of Korean Literature)

초록

임화의 신문학사 기술과 김윤식·김현의 한국문학사 서술은, 시대정신이 반영될 수밖에 없는, 당대의 문학인들에게 주어진 문학적 과제를 수행하려고 했던 실천적 노력의 결과물들이었다. 임화는 문학사 서술을 통해 프로문학에 닥친 ‘근본개념의 위기’를 실천적으로 돌파하려 했던 것이며, 『한국문학사』의 저자들은 임화의 이식문학론과 1950년대의 전통단절론을 내재적 발전론에 입각하여 논리적으로, 이론적으로 극복하려 했던 것이다. 그러나 이식문학론과 내재적 발전론은 그 표면적 이질성과는 달리 심층적으로 구조적 상동성을 지니는 쌍생아와 같은 것으로 평가할 수 있다. 두 가지 담론은 모두 서구의 근대화 모델을 직접적으로든 간접적으로든 의식하고 있었던 것이며, 서구적 보편성과의 유사성을 통해 어떻게든 한국의 20세기 전반의 역사적 파행성과 한국적 근대화의 과정을 해명해내려는 시도였던 것이다. 『한국문학사』가 1970년대의 의미인의 문학적 임무를 수행하려 했듯이, 2000년대의 의미인으로서 우리는 개화기 초의 역사적 사실들과 문학적 사건들에 대해 새로운 의미망을 부여하고, 또 다른 문학사적 관점을 제공할 수 있어야 한다. 미래에 도래할 문학사에 대해 우리는 알 수 없기에 섣불리 단언할 수는 없지만, 앞으로 제출될 문학사의 기본적인 방법으로, 무엇보다 ‘사료(史料)’에 입각한 ‘실증(實證)’이 그 서술의 기초를 이루어야 할 것으로 본다. 그리고 그것은 서구의 근대성을 보편적인 것으로 상정하고 한국사의 특수성을 변증법적으로 해명하려는 태도보다는, ‘복수(複數)의 근대(several modern)’라는 개념을 전제로 하여, 한국문학사의 특이성과 ‘보편적 개별성(universal singurarity)’을 설명할 수 있는 차원에서 접근되어야 할 것으로 판단된다.

영어초록

New Literary History and History of Korean Literature are bound to reflect the spirit of the times, given to writers in contemporary literature, and were the result of practical work trying to do the challenges.
