실록 소설 <야소슈몬콘겐키(耶蘇宗門根源記)>에 나타난 기리시탄 이미지의 고찰 - 침략의 선구자 및 요술사 이미지를 중심으로 - (An Analysis of the Image of Kirishitan as Depicted in the Factual Novel Yaso Shūmon Kongenki - Focusing on the Images of ‘Pioneers of Invasion’ and ‘Sorcerers’ -)

초록

本稿では、実録小説『耶蘇宗門根源記』に表現されたキリシタンのイメージがどのよ うなものであったかを検討し、そのイメージがどこから由来するものかを分析した。実録小説が当時の読者（または聴者）とのコミュニケーションの中で形成され、変化していくことを考慮すると、『耶蘇宗門根源記』に含まれるキリシタンのイメージは、当時の民衆が抱いていたキリシタン像と大きく異ならなかったと推測される。『耶蘇宗門根源記』に現れたキリシタンの代表的な二つのイメージは、「侵略のため の先駆者」としてのイメージと「妖術で人を惑わす者」としてのイメージである。「侵略のための先駆者」というイメージはサンフェリーペ号事件と関連しており、「妖術で人を惑わす者」というイメージは、林羅山の『排耶蘇』に見られるように、イエズス会宣教師が持ち込んだ自然科学関連の器具に由来する可能性が非常に高い。 結果的に、キリシタンにかぶせられたこうしたイメージは、キリスト教およびキリ スト教を信仰するすべての西洋諸国に対する恐怖を固め、鎖国の道を進む決定的な要因および名分として作用するようになった。和辻哲郎は日本のキリスト教受容について、「当時の日本人が示した唯一の視野拡大の動きがそこにあった」として、キリスト教の受容こそが西洋の合理的思考および自然科学的思考をもたらした画期的な出来事であったことを強調し、また、鎖国について「キリスト教を恐れて最終的に国の門を閉じたのは、この冒険心の不足と精神的な弱さが原因であった」と述べ、この視野の拡大が継続されなかったことに対する残念さを吐露している。戦国時代以降の日本は、視野を拡大するための冒険を選ぶ代わりに、国を閉ざし危険を冒さない鎖国の道を選んだのである。その鎖国をさらに固める手段の一つとして、キリシタンの歪んだイメージの拡散があり、その試みを『耶蘇宗門根源記』をはじめとするキリシタン実録小説を通して確認することができる。

영어초록

This paper examines the image of Kirishitan as depicted in the historical fiction Yaso Shumon Kongenki and analyzes where this image originated. Considering that historical novels were shaped and evolved through communication with readers (or listeners) of the time, it can be assumed that the image of Kirishitan in Yaso Shumon Kongenki was not vastly different from the one held by the general populace of the period.
The two primary images of Kirishitan portrayed in Yaso Shumon Kongenki are that of the ‘pioneer of invasion’ and the ‘one who deceives with witchcraft.’ The image of the ‘pioneer of invasion’ is linked to the San Felipe incident, while the image of the ‘one who deceives with witchcraft’ likely stems from Jesuit missionaries introducing scientific instruments, as seen in Hayashi Razan’s Hai Yaso.
Ultimately, these images imposed upon Kirishitan reinforced fears of Christianity and all Western nations devoted to the faith, acting as a decisive factor and justification for Japan’s move toward national isolation. Watsuji Tetsurō, discussing the acceptance of Christianity in Japan, emphasized that ‘the only attempt at broadening perspectives among Japanese at the time lay in this acceptance of Christianity,’ highlighting that it was a revolutionary event that brought Western rational thought and scientific perspectives to Japan. Reflecting on the isolation policy, he remarked that ‘the fear of Christianity that led to the eventual closing of the nation’s doors was due to a lack of adventurous spirit and mental resilience,’ expressing regret that this expansion of outlook did not continue.
Following the Sengoku period, Japan chose the path of isolation over taking risks to broaden its perspectives. One method used to further solidify this isolation was the spread of distorted images of Kirishitan, which can be observed in Yaso Shumon Kongenki and other historical novels about Kirishitan.
