초록

This article mainly discussed about the rise of nationalism and the formation of research method for yi-zi-quan-shi(history explanation through letters) through the tripartite relationship among the history, language, and the race of the revolution period of 1911. The time of revolution of 1911 in Chinese history belongs in the innovation period for scholarship and thought. The modern nationalism that advocates the race as the greatest value was formed at this time.
The Chinese intellectuals began to imagine an ethnic community since around 1903 when nationalism rose. The history, language as well as the letters were perceived as common denominators of racial components for them. The more the nationalism flourished, the higher the status of the language, letters and the history became. Liu Shi-Pei(劉師培) and Liang Qi-Chao(梁啓超) devised the research method for yi-zi-quan-shi, which investigates the ancient history through the language letters. The method of yi-zi-quan-shi was primarily utilized for the research of ancient history that supports the antiquity of the race. The results of yi-zi-quan-shi were mostly those that connect directly with establishment of the racial identity and construction of people's nation.
The research method for yi-zi-quan-shi offered the place for communication where a variety of voices cross that will bring about the change of the history in the period of the revolution of 1911. In that place for communication, the cry for the overthrow of the Establishment as well as the publicity of thought enlightenment resounded. Moreover, several political powers contended with one another for the interpretation of the history through yi-zi-quan-shi. That was because, for them, the knowledge of history meant the power that determines the direction for the present that has been built upon the past as well as for the future that will be set up.
