현대 춤에 나타난 시노그라피: 빛과 영상의 공간연출 (Scenography in contemporary dance : a mise-en-scene of light and space)

초록

Dance has evolved continuously with the advancement of time. The movement of the body which in the past was used to interpret dance has now moved beyond an expression of the body to a display of space called scenography and has given birth to countless aesthetic concepts. Due to the overflow of experimental performances, contemporary dance can no longer be interpreted in a restricted sense, and concepts such as interactive, fusion, media art, computer art, multimedia, and digital art are considered new codes which enable us to read art of the current era.
Various thoughts on the display of space have recently been applied to the art of dance and have transformed its boundaries.
Dance is changing from movements or release of emotion expressed solely by dancers into a challenge or an experiment that holds new possibilities. The power of space that dance demonstrates, or in other words, the effect of images or lighting created by modern devices enables multitudinous interpretations and suggests that the dance we imagined in this age that is absent of absoluteness can manifest in new ways and styles.
Representatively, the works by Dimitri Papaioannou and Kim Hyo-jin generate various depths and symbolic meanings using images and lighting, and the unique images derived from the stage allow abroadened experience of dance. Using scenography, their dance points out that boundaries such as “this is dance,” “this is installation art,”and “this is drama” are meaningless and show that an imagination of dance can become reality transcending restrictions and limitations.
The next move of the two artists who recognized the space which unfolded in this age and through many experiments realized the value of whether this other hidden space could be reenacted on stage is greatly anticipated.
