수용미학을 통한 실험적 포스트모던 그래픽디자인 해석 연구 -불명료성과 빈자리 관점을 중심으로- (Experimental Postmodern Graphic Design Interpretation Study through Reception Aesthetic -Focusing on the Aspect of Ambiguity and Empty Space-)

초록

포스트모던 영향을 받은 그래픽디자인은 해체적 성향으로 그 개념이 확장되며 좀 더 도전적이고 실험적표현 방법들로 발전해왔다. 포스트모던 시대로 접어들면서 그래픽디자인 영역에서 발생한 커다란 변화는바로 탈형식(existing forms)에서 나타난 불명료성이라 할 수 있다. 그래픽디자인에서 나타나는 불명료성은 가독성 없음, 이미지의 중첩, 형태적인 왜곡, 이미지와 텍스트의 경계 무시, 무질서 등이 만들어내는 메시지의 모호성을 특징으로 한다. 아울러 급속한 디지털 발전과 함께 그래픽디자인 표현 양상은 파격적이고 다양한 실험적 형식들로 전환되면서 작품을 감상하는 독자에게 능동적⋅창의적 태도를 요구하기 시작했다. 따라서 연구자는 포스트모던 영향을 받은 그래픽디자인 작품을 감상하는 독자의 해석 태도에 대한상호 관계성이 중요해진 상황에 주목해 새로운 관점에서의 연구가 필요하다고 보았다.
본 연구를 위해서 연구자는 독자 중심적인 문학 연구 이론인 수용미학(Aesthetics of Reception)을 중심이론으로 상정하여 개념을 정리하고, ‘텍스트(text)’와‘작품(work)’을 분리하고 텍스트와 독자와의 상호작용의 중요성을 부각한 볼프강 이저(Wolfgang Iser)의수용 이론에 중점을 두고 고찰하였다. 아울러 포스트모던 그래픽디자인의 개념 확장에 대해 정의하며 표현 양상에 대해 분석하였다. 이를 바탕으로 마지막으로 실험적 조형성을 가지는 포스트모던 그래픽디자인작품 해석을 위해 수용미학 특징인 ‘불명료성’과 ‘빈자리’를 도출하고 이론의 범주로 대입하여 독자 해석이어떻게 확장되는지 연구⋅분석하였다.
그 결과 수용미학을 통한 실험적 포스트모던 그래픽디자인 작품 해석을 분석하는 것은 독자 중심의 그래픽디자인 해석 연구의 이론적인 토대를 마련함과동시에 현대 그래픽디자인 영역에서 능동적이고 창의적인 역할이 강조되는 현대 독자에 대한 차별화된 수용 연구의 방향성을 제시하고자 하였다. 아울러 무한한 실험적 조형성을 창조하는 현대 그래픽디자인 영역에 다양한 디자인 방법론을 모색케 하였다.

영어초록

Postmodernism-influenced graphic design has been developed into defiant and experimental forms of art since it has expanded its concept in the modern world by accepting deconstructive tendencies. A major change that has occurred in the field of graphic design as it entered the postmodern world was the appearance of obscurity from existing forms. The obscurity in graphic design is characterized by an ambiguity of the message that comes from non-readability, superposition of images, morphological distortions, blurred boundaries between image and text, disorderliness, and the like. Furthermore, thanks to the rapid development of digital technology, the expressive aspect of graphic design has come to require activeness and creativity from an audience capable of both provocatively and experimentally appreciating a work of art. Therefore, the author found it necessary to study a new perspective that attends to the importance of the interrelationship of the audience’s interpretive attitude toward postmodernism-influenced graphic design.
For the purpose of this study, the author set the aesthetics of reception, a reader-focused literary research theory, as the main theory on which all the definitions were based and focused on the receptive theory of Wolfgang Iser, which argues for the separation of text and work and emphasizes the importance of an interrelationship with the audience.
Furthermore, the author also defined the expanded concept of postmodern graphic design and analyzed its expressive aspects. Finally, the three characteristics of reception aesthetic—(1) the aspect of ambiguity; (2) the aspect of absence; —were substituted as the categories of the theory for interpreting postmodern graphics design works that take experimental formulation in order to study and analyze how the audience’s interpretation expands.
Analyzing the interpretation of postmodern graphic design works by means of reception aesthetics not only establishes the theoretical foundation for an interpretive study of reader-focused graphic design but also points the researcher in the direction of achieving a differentiated study about the modern audience of graphic design, who must play active and creative roles.
In addition, through this study, various design methods were sought in the field of modern graphic design, which has the infinite possibility of creating experimental formulations.
