평점(評點) 소설 협비(夾批)에서 평점가의 위치와 텍스트 성격, 독서 행위 (The Position of Critical Commentator in Insertion Comments of Novel with Critical Commentary, the Character of the Text and the Act of Reading - Understanding Critical Commentary in Novel through TV E)

초록

본 논문에서는 예능프로그램 자막과 평점 소설 협비가 기능과 성격 면에서 공통점이 많음에 주목하고, 예능프로그램 자막 연구 성과를 바탕으로 평점 소설에서평점가의 위치와 권력 문제, 텍스트의 성격, 독서 양상 등을 살펴보았다.
먼저 소설 협비에서 평점가는 위치(역할), 대상, 시점을 수시로 바꾸어 가며 평점을 달고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 즉 협비에서 다루는 내용이 무엇이든, 평점가는 ‘대독자(代讀者)’, ‘비평가’, ‘구경꾼(가상 독자)’, ‘나레이터’, ‘(작자) 대변인’ 등 다양한 위치에서 단다. 그리고 때로는 독자에게 말하기도 하고, 때로는 지목대상이 없이 혼잣말을 하기도 하며, 때로는 등장인물에게 대꾸하듯 말하기도 한다. 이때 평점가는 작품의 전후 맥락을 훤히 다 알고 있는 전지적 관찰자 시점에서기도 하고, 작품 내용을 전혀 모르는 듯이 독자와 함께 작품을 읽고 있는 듯한모습을 보이기도 한다. 그중에서도 ‘구경꾼(가상 독자)’ 위치에서 단 협비들은 독자들이 부담 없이 작품을 흥미롭게 읽도록 하는 데 가장 크게 기여한다.
그런데 협비 안에서 보이는 평점가의 다양한 모습에도 불구하고, 평점은 평점가가 작품을 깊이 있게 이해하고 분석한 결과물이기 때문에 평점가는 소설 작품에서권력을 획득하게 되며, 이를 바탕으로 어떤 식으로든 독자의 독서 과정에 개입할수밖에 없다. 이때 평점가는 다양한 모습의 얼굴과 다양한 크기의 힘으로 독자에게 접근한다. 이로 인해, 평점 소설 텍스트는 ‘의제설정(Agenda-Setting) 효과’, ‘닫힌 텍스트(closed text)’, ‘상호수동성(interpasssivity) 기제’, ‘작자 타자화’ 등의 특성을 지닌다.
평점 소설의 독서 양상은 ‘소설의 협비들이 궁극적으로 독자에게 어떤 의미를갖는 존재인가’ 하는 문제로 귀결된다. 먼저 소설 협비를 무척 즐겁고 흥미로운 대상으로 여기는 독자들은 평점의 내용, 수준, 합당성 여부에 관계없이 작품에 협비가 달려 있는 것 자체를 즐길 수 있다. 그리고 작품을 이해하는 데 애를 먹는 독자들은 소설 협비의 인도와 도움을 받아 작품을 따라가며 읽을 수 있다. 또한 독서수준이 일정 수준 이상 되는 독자들에게 협비는 사실 신경쓰이는 존재이지만, 자신이 작품에 대해 나름대로 이해하고 감상한 것과 견주어 보고 평가하며 읽을 수있다. 마지막으로 협비가 방해만 된다고 여기는 독자들은 협비를 애써 무시하며읽거나 협비가 없는 텍스트를 찾아서 읽을 수밖에 없다.

영어초록

This study paid attention to many common grounds between TV entertainment program captions and insertion comments in novels with critical commentary in terms of function and characteristic and investigated the issues of the position and power of the critical commentators of novels with the critical commentary, the characteristics of texts and the aspects of reading based on the performance of research on TV entertainment program captions.
First, it was noted that in insertion comments in novels, the critical commentators put critical commentaries, frequently changing position (role), object and perspective. In other words, no matter what the insertion comments deal with, they put the commentaries from various positions as a ‘proxy readers’, ‘critics’, ‘spectators (virtual readers)’, ‘narrators’ and ‘(the author’s) spokespersons.’ Also, sometimes, the critical commentators speak to readers; other times, they talk to themselves; or other times, they say as if they reply to characters. At this time, the critical commentators stand on the position of omniscient observers who fully know the context of the works or looks like reading the works with the readers as if they did not know the contents of the works. The insertion comments put from the position of a ‘spectator (virtual reader)’ make the greatest contribution to making the readers enjoy reading the work without any burden.
Nevertheless, in spite of the various appearances of the critical commentator in the insertion comments, since the critical commentary is the result of the commentator’s in-depth understanding and analysis, the critical commentator gain power in the work of novel and cannot but intervene the process of the reader’s reading in some way based on this. At this time, the critical commentator approaches the readers with various faces and forces of various sizes. Accordingly, the text of the novel with the critical commentary has characteristics such as ‘agenda-setting effect’, ‘closed text’, ‘interpassivity mechanism’ and ‘the otherization of the author.’ The aspects of reading the novel with critical commentary consequently result in the question, “What do insertion comments in novels ultimately mean to readers.” First, the readers considering insertion comments in novels very entertaining and exciting objects can themselves enjoy the insertion comments put in the works, regardless of the content, level, and propriety of the critical commentary. In addition, the readers who have difficulty in understanding the works can follow and read the works, guided and helped by the insertion comments of the novels. In addition, to the readers in a reading level higher than a certain level, insertion comments bother in fact, but they can evaluate and read works, comparing them with their own understanding and appreciation. Lastly, the readers who consider insertion comments obstacles cannot but read the works, ignoring insertion comments with effort or find and read texts without insertion comments.
