초록

(연구 배경 및 목적) '귀여움'에 대한 체계적 이해는 대부분 베이비 스키마 연구에서 출발하며, 이는 양육이라는 중요한 과제를 수행하기 위한 목적으로 비경계(非警戒) 하도록 작동하고 선호된다. 베이비 스키마는 행동학과 신경학 등 과학적 연구를 통해 기본 원리와 보편적인 호감 체계를 구조화해 이해할 수 있게 되었고, 디자인 연구에서도 감성을 바탕으로 다양한 응용 시도가 이루어지고 있다. 조형 생산자들은 이러한 귀여움의 본질을 디자인에 적용함으로써 선호를 증가시키는 효과를 기대할 수 있다. 본 연구는 베이비 스키마의 조형 요소를 정량화하고, 비경계 특성에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지에 대한 관계를 밝히는 것을 목적으로 연구를 수행하였다. (연구범위 및 방법) 베이비 스키마의 행동학적 이론을 미의식과 조형 요소로 해석한 선행연구에 기반한 본 연구는 조형 요소의 조건에 맞는 베이비 스키마 선호를 정량화하고, 본 연구에서 정의된 비경계 특성으로 조형 요소와 관계를 들여다보는 것을 그 범위로 한다. 연구의 방법으로 조형 요소의 선호를 5점 척도로 빈도 측정하고, 각각 요소들이 베이비 스키마의 비경계 특성에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 가설을 검증하였다. 베이비 스키마의 조형 요소로는 곡선, 곡면, 대칭, 비례, 반투명, 부드러움, 빛의 계조, 색의 계조 등을 설정하였으며, 이를 변수로 비경계 특성에 대한 영향을 다중 선형 회귀 분석으로 도출하였다. (결과) 본 연구를 통해 베이비 스키마의 조형 요소들이 비경계 특성에 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었다. 특히, 곡선, 비례, 컬러 등의 요소가 비경계 특성에 대한 강력한 영향력을 가지는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나, 대칭, 반투명, 부드러움, 빛 등의 요소는 본 연구에서 기대한 만큼의 영향력을 보이지 못하였다. 이는 연구 대상의 특성인 디자인 요소와 비경계 특성 간의 복잡한 상호작용과 관련이 있을 것으로 해석된다. (결론) 본 연구는 베이비 스키마의 조형 요소가 비경계 특성에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지에 대한 관계 연구로, 선행 행동학적 연구의 미의식 해석에 초점을 맞추던 베이비 스키마 디자인 연구에 대한 새로운 방향을 제시하고자 하였고, 이를 통한 학문 및 실무적 인사이트를 기대한다. 그러나, 조형 요소와 특성에 대한 선형 관계 분석에 집중하였기 때문에, 여타 조형원리나 베이비 스키마의 다른 특성 요인에 대한 확장성에 한계점이 있다. 향후 더 다양한 방법의 분석을 통한 베이비 스키마의 다각적인 디자인 연구가 필요하다.

영어초록

(Research Background and Purpose) Systematic understanding of 'cuteness' mostly originates from studies on baby schema, which operates to foster non-alertness and preference for the purpose of performing the crucial task of nurturing. The baby schema, through scientific research such as ethology and neurology, has enabled the understanding of fundamental principles and the structure of a universally preferred system, and various application attempts based on sentiment are being made in design research. Design producers can expect to increase preference by applying the essence of this cuteness to design. This study was conducted to quantify the formal elements of the baby schema and elucidate the relationship with non-alertness. (Method) Based on the preceding research that interprets the ethological theory of the baby schema into aesthetics and formal elements, this study aims to quantify the preference for baby schema that meets the conditions of the formal elements, and to look into the relationship with non-alertness defined in this study. As a method of research, the preference for formal elements was measured by frequency with a 5-point scale, and hypotheses were tested on how each element affects the non-alertness of the baby schema. The formal elements of the baby schema, such as curves, curved surfaces, symmetry, proportions, semi-transparency, softness, light gradations, color gradations, etc., were set, and their effects on non-alertness were derived through multiple linear regression analysis. (Results) Through this study, it was confirmed that the formal elements of the baby schema have a significant effect on non-alertness. In particular, it was found that elements such as curves, proportions, and color have a strong influence on non-alertness. However, elements such as symmetry, semi-transparency, softness, and light did not show as much influence as expected in this study. This is interpreted to be related to the complex interaction between the characteristics of the research subject, the design elements, and non-alertness (Conclusion) This study aimed to propose a new direction for baby schema design research focusing on aesthetic interpretation of preceding ethological research by investigating the relationship of how the formal elements of the baby schema affect non-alertness. Academic and practical insights are expected through this. However, since the study focused on the linear relationship analysis of formal elements and non-alertness, there are limitations in the extendibility for other principles of form and other characteristic factors of the baby schema. In the future, a more diverse range of design research on the baby schema through various methods of analysis is needed.
