신동문 전기시의 연작 형식 -『 풍선과제삼포복』의불연속적시리즈성을중심으로 (A Serial Works form in the early Poetry of Shin Dong-Moon - Focusing on the discontinuous Seriality in「 Balloon and the Third Creeping」)

초록

50년대 시사에서 시적 형식에 대한 고민은 두 가지 분파에 대한 대응 속에서이루어졌다. 첫째, 서정시의 적격을 강조하는 일련의 전통주의 집단에 대해 대립항으로서 존재하여야 했다. 청록파를 위시한 전통주의 집단이 보여주는‘닫힌형식’으로서의 시학에 대응해야 했던 것이다. 둘째, 합리적 이성의 변종인 전란이라는 끔찍한 상황과 막연한 진보에의 믿음에 대해서도 경계하여야 했다. 전자와 같이 미적 체험의 응축된 형식으로 기능하는 서정시에 대응하기 위해 전후에는 시의“장형화 현상”이 두드러지게 나타났다. 그러나 전란과 시대적 격변 속에서 적극적으로 생산된 장시와 연작시에는 서사적 실패와 질서에 대한 불안의식이 동시에 노출될 수밖에 없었다. 그리하여 장형화된 연작시를 표방하지만, 미래에 대한 연속성과 구조적 완결성을 거부하는 불연속적인 장형 연작시의 형태가나타나게 되었다.
신동문의 시편들은 불연속적인 연작시의 양상을 보이는 전후시의 대표적인 사례라고 할 수 있다. 그는 시작 초기에 정력적으로 연작시를 창작했지만, 그의 연작시는 하나의 서사적 구조를 띠고서 처음과 시작을 갖추고 있는 완결된 형태의연작시를 보여주지는 않는다. 이는 시의 생명으로서의 유기성이나, 진화적 시간관을 대변하는 다윈이즘을 철저하게 거부하는 양상으로 나타난다. 그리하여 신동문의 연작시는 기획적인 연작의 형태를 띠면서도, 그 시편들과의 인과관계와필연성이 최대한 깨져있는 특이한 형태로 존재한다.
본고에서는 단형화와 장형화의 두 가지 이분법적 형식을 혁신하는 움직임을설명하기 위해 콩테의‘시리즈성’의 개념을 도입하였다. 콩테는“요소들의 불연속성”을 주목하고 주제적인 연속성을 가진 인과적 시퀀스와 불연속적인 시리즈를 구별하고 있다.“ 이러한 시리즈들이란 서사시의 포함을 요구하지 않으며, 단일한 서정시의 완전함과는 분리되는”것으로서“합산도 배제도 요구하지 않는”“소재들의 다양한 집합을 허용하는 결합적인 형식”이다. 이는 선조적 진행에 맞춘 서사적 형식을 지향하지 않은 채 이를 부정하면서 탄생했던 전후 시기 연작시를 설명할 수 있는 유효한 개념이 된다.
신동문의 연작시는 고전적 서정시를 늘여 쓴 형식과 같은 안정적이고 구심적인 연작시의 형식에서 벗어나 있다. 「풍선기(風船期)」와「제삼포복(第三匍匐)」이라는 제목하에 각각의 시편들이 이어져 있지만 연작마다의 필연성은 깨져있으며, 시편들 사이의 유기적인 진행 과정이 드러나 있지 않은‘시리즈’형식을 보여준다. 유기적인 순차적 연속물의 인과적 진행에 대한 대안으로 나타난 이러한‘시리즈 형식’은“불연속적이며, 종종 하나의 사물이 다른 하나를 따르는 우연한 방식에 의해 결정된다. 이러한 불연속적인 연작시의 형식은 파편화되고 우연성에 지배되는 전후의 실재적 현실을 드러내는 하나의 방법적 전략이었다. 즉 기존의 인과적 연작시의 개념을 파괴하고 이를 변형하여 당대의 전후 현실을 드러내고자 했던 새로운 시적 도전으로 볼 수 있는 것이다.

영어초록

According to the history of poetry in ’50s, a worry about poetic form was solved by dealing with two factions. First, it should be existed as contrast against a chain of traditionalism group as well as Group of Blue Deer which emphasized competence of lyric and poetics as‘ closed form’, and second, It was necessary to be on the alert about terrible situation of war as variants of rational reason and faith for the future. Like a former, in order to deal with lyric which is functioning as condensed format of aesthetic experience, “long-form phenomenon”of poems appeared prominently after war. However, the long poems and serial poems produced positively in the contemporary upheavals of war couldn't help exposing narrative failure and anxiety about the order at the same time. Thus, the serial poems of long form which refuse continuity for the future and structural integrity appeared.
The serial poems of Shin Dong-Moon can be said that the representative examples of Post-war poetry which shows aspects of discontinuous serial poems. He created serial poems vigorously in the early days of writing, but his serial poems don’t show the complete form observing the beginning and end of narrative structure. It appeared by the aspects to thoroughly reject organic as life of poems or Darwinism which is represented as a evolutional viewpoint of time.
Therefore, the serial poems of Shin Dong-Moon have projective form of serial works and as unusual form with broken causality and inevitability with poems.
This study introduced Conte’s‘ seriality’concept to express movement which innovates two dichotomous forms as short form and long form. Conte paid attention to“ discontinuity”and he divided causal sequence including subjective progression with discontinuous series“. These series don’t not require the exclusion of epic and are separated from completeness of single lyric”and it is“ the incorporative form which allows the various sets of materials”“which doesn’t require adding up or exclusion”. It became a valuable concept to express the serial poems which was born in post-war period by denying the narrative form adjusting linear progression.
The serial poems of Shin Dong-Moon is out of the form of stable centripetal serial poems like a form which the classical lyric is lengthened. Each poems are connected by the same title as 「Pungseongi(風船期)」and 「the Third Creeping(第三匍匐)」, but inevitability of serial works is broken and the organic progression between those shows unrevealed form of ‘series’. The “serial form”appeared as counterproposal for the causal progression of organic sequence has features which is“ discontinuous, and is determined by aleatory manner that one object follows another object often”. The form of discontinuous serial poems was one strategy in action showing post-war reality which was fragmentize and was ruled by contingency. It can be seen as new poetic challenge which destroys the concept of existing causal serial poems, and transforms it for revealing the real after war.
