초록

쌍계사 대웅전에 봉안된 삼세불상 가운데 석가불, 약사불과 사보살상은 1639년에 조성된 중요한 불상들이다.
첫째, 쌍계사 목조 삼세불상의 조성배경은 발원문에 있다시피 벽암당 각성 도총섭이 쌍계사를 중창하면서 삼세불상도 함께 불사 총괄자로 조성하게 되며 청헌(淸憲)은 수조각승으로 삼세불상을 직접 조성하게 된다.
둘째, 쌍계사 삼세불상은 석가·약사·아미타불상 등 삼세불상과 문수·보현보살과 일광·관음보살 등 4보살로 구성되었는데 삼세불상은 좌상, 협시 4보살상은 입상으로 독특한 특징을 보여주고 있다.
셋째, 쌍계사 삼세불상은 청헌의 양식특징이 가장 잘 나타나고 있는 청헌의 대표작이라 해도 무리가 없을 정도이다. 사각형의 박력 있는 얼굴과 당당한 신체 표현은 청헌 불상의 양식 특징이 가장 잘 드러나고 있는 수작으로 평가되고 있다.
넷째, 삼세불상의 복장품은 발원문 외에 5보와 5약이 산질로 보이고 있어서 좀 더 체계적으로 조사되어야 할 것이다.
다섯째, 쌍계사 삼세불상은 17세기 전반기를 대표하는 수조각승 청헌이 심혈을 기울여 조성한 17세기 전반기의 대표적 불상조각으로 높이 평가된다고 할 수 있을 것이다.

영어초록

Among the three world Buddha statues enshrined in the Daeungjeon Hall at Ssanggyesa temple, the Sakyamuni Buddha statue, Bhaisajyaguru Buddha statue, and the Four Bodhisattva statues are important Buddhist statues created in 1639.
First, as stated in the origin text, the background of the creation of the wooden three world Buddha statues at Ssanggyesa temple is that when Byeokamdang Gakseong Dochongseop rebuilt Ssanggyesa temple, he also created the three world Buddha statues as a general supervisor of the Buddhist project, and Cheongheon(淸憲) directly created the three world Buddha statues as a head sculptor monk.
Second, the three world Buddha statues at Ssanggyesa temple consist of the three Buddhas such as Sakyamuni, Bhaisajyaguru, and Amitabha, and the four Bodhisattvas such as Manjusri, Samantabhadra, and Sunlight and Avalokitesvara. The three world Buddha statues at Ssanggyesa temple are seated, and the four Bodhisattvas are standing, showing unique characteristics.
Third, it may not be an exaggeration to say that the three world Buddha statues at Ssanggyesa temple are considered to be Cheongheon’s representative work, as they best display Cheongheon’s stylistic characteristics. The powerful square face and dignified body expression are evaluated as a masterpiece that best displays the stylistic characteristics of Cheongheon’s Buddha statue works.
Fourth, the three world Buddha statues’ chest-inside artifacts, in addition to the origin text, appear to be of the five treasures and five medicines in an incomplete manner with some parts missing, so they should be investigated more systematically.
Fifth, the three world Buddha statues at Ssanggyesa temple can be said to be highly regarded as representative Buddhist sculptures of the first half of the 17th century, created with great care by the sculptor monk Cheongheon, who represented the first half of the 17th century.
