담화 기호학의 긴장구조 - 선우휘의 「불꽃」을 중심으로 (Tensive structure of discourse semiotics: mainly on Sunwoo Hwi’s Flames)

프랑스 기호학자 자크 퐁타닐이 정념 기호학에 뒤이어 정립한 담화 기호학에서 필수적이고 중요한 분석 도구인 긴장구조(structure tensive) 이론에 초점을 맞춰 본고의내용을 다루고자 한다. 담화 기호학은 기존 기호학의 구조에 대한 관심을 작용과 조작으로 이동하고, 이산적 대립에 대한 관심을 긴장적이고 점차적인 차이로 이동한다. 그래서 발화되고 있는 담화를 파악할 수 있는 도구를 구축하고자 하며 발화 작용과조작에 중요성을 부여하는데, 지각을 기반으로 하여 이루어진다. 여기에서 감각의 현상이 처음으로 분절된다. 또한 유의미적 집합을 조직하는 가치 체계를 찾고자 하는데, 이 가치 체계는 긴장구조의 형태를 띤다. 긴장구조는 발화 현동태(instance énonciative, 발화실현행위)를 전제로 하며, 점차적이고 방향 지워진 발랑스(변조 현상) 를 구성하면서 차이적인 가치 체계의 기반이 된다. 긴장구조를 도식화한 긴장도식은 개념적 구조인 동시에 시각적 표상이며, 지각 활동에서 두 발랑스인 강도(세로좌표) 와 범위(가로좌표)의 결합으로 이루어진다. 본고는 긴장구조 이론을 제2회 동인 문학상을 수상한 작가 선우휘의 「불꽃」에 적용하여 가능성과 유효성을 입증하는 것을 목적으로 하였다.

영어초록

The objective of this manuscript is examining the tensive structure, the essential and important tool of analysis in discourse semiotics(which was established by Jacques Fontanille after passion semiotics), focusing on Flames(1957) by Sunwoo Hwi, who won the 2nd Dong-In literary award.
First of all I have explained the tensive structure, and then the tensive scheme, intensity and range, tension and discourse code. Then I have applied these to Flames and analysed, to prove the potential and validity of the theory.
Discourse semiotics intend to find the value system which has a form of tensive structure inside the text, and understand the manifestation of meaning from the change of the tensive structure, in other words, the change of intensity and range. If the body is to experience the existence as passion, the existence needs intensity to make the subject feel its perception stronger or weaker, and at the same time, there must be range of feeling, wide or narrow. Thus we can say the combination of degree of intensity and range defines the degree of existence.
Change of characters’ attitude of reaction on life is manifested prominently in Flames. The protagonist Hyun and his grandfather were initially defensive and passive on life, but their manner later change into more active and strong-willed life. I have found if this is expressed on tensive scheme it will be ascending scheme of retrograde correlation, and proven that tensive scheme can be applied for describing the transition of characters’ consciousness like this.
Also, the theory of tensive structure can explain the non-verbal manifestation inside text with tension and discourse code. If a certain manifestation of semantics can be seized inside the text, it is because that manifestation functions as the code for formation of a system. Fontanille categorized these codes into six kinds, found examples of them inside the text, and proved that non-verbal manifestation can be explained with tension and discourse code.
Given that the objective of semiotics is to prove the potential and validity of theoretical hypothesis by applying it to the text, this manuscript has its worth on proving the potential and validity of tensive structure, an important idea of discourse semiotics, by applying and analyzing it to a part of Sunwoo Hwi’s Flames.
