전남 서부지역 전방후원형분 축조세력 검토 (A study on the construction power of keyhole shaped tombs in the Western Jeonnam area)

초록

전남 서부지역에 조영되어 있는 전반후원형분은 5세기 말에서 6세기 초까지 재지수장세력이 백제와 왜의 영향을 받아 축조하였으며, 현재까지 영산강유역 11기, 서해안지역 5기, 남해안지역 2기 등 총 18기가 확인되었다.
전남 서부지역은 역사적으로 4세기 후반 백제의 영역으로 편입 되었다. 그러나 백제는 국내·외적으로 복합적인 이유로 편입지역에 대하여 직접통치를 못하고 재지세력에의한 간접지배를 하였다.
전방후원형분의 분포를 보면 백제가 재지세력의 견제를 위하여 왜계백제관료를 의도적으로 분산 배치한 것이라기보다는 재지수장세력이 성장하여 활동하였던 지역으로 보인다.
전방후원형분 축조세력의 출자에 대해서는 크게 왜인설과 재지수장설로 나누어진다.
왜인설은 왜계백제관료, 현지에 이주한 왜계집단, 왜에서 이민한 마한계 왜인 등이 있고, 재지수장설로는 백제로부터 일정부분 독립성이 유지된 재지수장세력, 백제의 영향으로 왜 문화를 수용한 재지수장세력 등이 있다.
전남 서부지역 전방후원형분의 축조세력은 분형의 축조방식, 석실의 구조, 출토유물, 위세품, 매장법 등 고고학적 배경, 철제 농기구의 보급 확대, 우경의 보급, 주곡의변화, 수리시설의 확충 등 농업생산력의 획기적인 증대에 의한 경제적 기반, 475년 고구려의 침공에 의한 한성의 함락으로 백제의 정치적 혼란기에 재지수장세력의 일시적인 정치적 독립현상인 정치적 여건, 동성왕이 시행한 왕·후제의 검토를 통하여 백제가전남 서부지역을 간접지배 한 것임을 문헌의 검토를 통하여 증명하고자 한다.
결과적으로 전남 서부지역 전방후원형분 축조세력은 3세기부터 옹관묘를 조영하던재지집단이 꾸준하게 성장한 재지수장세력이다. 재지수장세력들은 백제의 정치적 혼란기를 틈탄 5세기 말에서 6세기 초까지 백제와 왜 그리고 가야 등과 활발한 직접 교류를통하여 일부는 옹관고분으로 일부는 전방후원형분을 축조하여 그 세력을 과시했던 것으로 보인다.

영어초록

Keyhole shaped tombs in the Western Jeonnam area were established by theregional ruling power from the late 5th century to the early 6th century under the influenceof Baekje and Papan. So far, total 18 tombs were found and confirmed including 11 atYeongsan River basic 5 at the Western Sea area and 2 at the Southern Sea area.
The Western Jeonnam area was incorporated into Baekje at the late 4th century.
However, Baekje made an indirect ruling over the incorporated area utilizing the regionalruling power due to complicated internal and external reasons.
When the distribution map of the keyhole shaped tombs is examined, the areaseems to the place where the regional ruling power grew and worked rather than the placewhere the Japan originated Baekje officials were intentionally distributed and arranged tokeep the regional ruling power in check by Baekje.
As for the construction power of the keyhole shaped tombs, it is divided intothe argument of Japanese construction and the argument of the regional ruling powerconstruction. The former was supported by the Japan originated Baekje officials, theJapanese migrated group and Mahan origin Japanese who migrated from Japan. Thelatter is related to independent regional ruling power, regional ruling power under heavyinfluence by Baekje and regional ruling power in relation with Japan by the influence ofBaekje.
The construction power of keyhole shaped tombs in Western Jeonnam area wasindirectly ruled by Baekje considering the archeological background including constructionmethod of tombs, structure of stone tomb, relics and burial method, economic foundationby significant increase of agricultural productivity by means of expansion of distributionof iron agricultural tool, distribution of cow applying farming, change of main grains andexpansion of irrigation facilities, political condition that increased independency of theregional ruling power by the destruction of Hanseong of Baekja by the invasion of Goguryeoin 475 and the king and feudal lords system executed by King Dongseong through theliterature review. Therefore the construction power of keyhole shaped tombs was theregional ruling power.
Consequently, the construction power of keyhole shaped tombs in the WesternJeonnam area was the regional ruling power growing out of the local group who constructed jar burial tombs from the 3rd century. The regional ruling power had direct and activeexchanges with Baekje, Japan and Gaya from the late 5th century to the early 6th centuryduring the political confusion of Baekje. Some of them constructed jar burial tombs andothers constructed keyhole shaped tombs to demonstrate their power.
