발해 석실분의 형식과 구조에 대한 연구 (Study on the type and structure of Balhae’s stone chamber tomb)

초록

본고는 발해석실분에 대한 연구로, 석실분의 구조적 분석을 통해 그 특징과 지역성 등을 알아보고, 석실분이 지니는 발해고분의 대표성을 확인하는 것이 그 목적이라 하겠다.
발해 석실분은 크게 그 외형적인 특징에 따라서 관-곽-실로 구분이 되고 다시 축조방법 및 구조적인 차이에 따라 수혈식석곽묘, A형석실분(횡혈식), B형석실분(횡구식) 그리고 형태는 횡혈식석실분과 비슷하지만, 축조방법이 다르며, 묘실과 묘도의 높이가 낮아 실제로 묘도를 이용하지 못하여 수혈식으로 시신을 안치할 수밖에 없는 형식을 C형석실분으로 구분하였다. 위의 형식 분류를 기준으로 고분의 여러 가지 속성 즉 축조방법, 묘도, 묘실, 천정개석, 봉토 등을 각 고분의 형식별로 살펴보았다.
이상의 연구결과, 발해고분 중 석실분의 경우 구조적으로 A형과 B형석실분을 제외하고는 추가장이 불가능한 구조이다. C형석실분의 경우 묘실과 묘도의 높이가 낮고 묘도 또한 실제로 이용할 수 없기 때문에 시신은 수혈식으로 안치되어야한다.
각 고분 내 인골 출토상황을 살펴보면, 다른 석실분보다 C형석실분에서 다인장의 사례를 많이 확인할 수 있는데, 이 형식은 추가장이 불가능한 구조이기 때문에, 여러 명의 인골이 동시에 안치되었을 것이라는 추정이 가능하며, 합장 혹은 순장의 존재를 상정해 볼 수 있다.
석실분의 각 유형별 분포양상을 봤을 때 A형석실분은 중국의 경우 왕도 근처에서만 확인이 되며 그 양은 함경도 일원의 A형석실분에 비해 분포비율이 낮다. 반면 중국경내의 경우 B형석실분과 C형석실분의 비중이 높다.
각 형식별 종합적인 분포양상을 보면, A형의 경우 왕도근처와 함경도일원, B형의 경우 그 수가 많지 않으나 역시 상경이나 중경지역 즉 왕도 근처에서 확인가능하다. 반면 C형과 수혈식석곽묘의 경우 중앙지역, 함경도지역, 연해주지역까지 널리 분포를 하고 있다. 따라서 이들 유형의 묘제를 발해에서 가장 널리 퍼진 대표적인 묘제라고 할 수 있다.
마지막으로 C형석실분을 통해서 발해의 중앙문화가 지방으로 파급되는 양상도 볼 수 있다. 솔빈부에 위치한 대성자고분군이나 체르냐찌노5고분군의 경우로서, 솔빈부는 말갈족이 거주하던 지역으로, 이곳은 전통적으로 토광묘가 조성되던 곳이다. 여기에서 발견된 C형석실분과 수혈식석곽묘는 발해건국이후에 이곳으로 유입된 정황을 반영하고 이는 즉 중앙의 묘제가 지방으로 전해진 결과로 해석할 수 있다.

영어초록

This paper is a study of Balhae stone chamber tomb, especially of the tombs made of stone. The qualities and regional characteristics of the stone foundation tombs will be investigated through a structural analysis, and the purpose is to verify the representativeness of them among Balhae tombs.
The stone foundation tomb of Balhae is separated to coffin, outer coffin, and chamber according to the external features. They are divided again by the methods of construction and the structural analysis, to vertical stone lined tomb for outer coffin, and to A type stone chamber tomb(stone chamber tomb with horizontal entrance) and B type stone chamber tomb(stone chamber tomb with horizontal gate) for chamber. The other type which is similar to A type stone chamber tomb in the shape, but was constructed in different methods is categorized as C type stone chamber tomb which has to lay the remains in state in the manner of vertical type because the height of burial chamber and tomb passage is low, and the tomb passage cannot be in use. Based on this form classification, various characteristics of Balhae tombs are examined in this paper, that is, such as the methods of construction, tomb passage, burial chamber, ceiling stone, burial mound, and so on. In particular, the structural and regional differences of the stone chamber tombs have been identified.
Judging from the results of this study, the structure of Balhae stone chamber tombs is not available for added burial except for A and B type stone chamber tombs. In the case of C type stone chamber tomb, the remains should be laid in state in the manner of vertical type.
The context of unearthed skulls in each tomb shows that multi burial has been more found in C type stone chamber tomb than others. The assumption that several remains might have been laid in state is possible since the type is not available for added burial. In this sense, simultaneous-joint burial or sacrificial burial can come into consideration rather than added burial.
In the overall distribution, A type is located around the capital of balhae and Hamgyeong province, B type is found in Sangkyoung(上京), Joongkyoung(中京), namely, around the capital, even though the number is not that many. C type stone chamber tombs and vertical stone lined tombs, on the other hand, are widely distributed in the central area, Ham-gyeong province, and the Primorskij(Maritime Province of Siberia). Therefore, these types of tombs are the representatives most widely spread out in Balhae.
At the conclusion, it can be also examined how the central culture of Balhae was spread out to other provinces through C type stone chamber tomb and vertical stone lined tomb, for instance, such as dachengzimuzang(大成子古墳群), located in Solbin-bu(率濱部), and chernyatino5 tombs. Solbin-bu(率濱部) was the area in which Malgal tribe(靺鞨族) resided and pit burials were built. The C type stone chamber tombs and vertical stone lined tombs found in this area, reflect how they were introduced after the establishment of Balhae. In other words, the possible interpretation is that the burial types of tombs in the central area were transferred to other provinces.
