페이스북 공동체의 소통 기능과 정치적 변혁성 (Communicative Function and Political Transformation of Facebook Community)

지역공동체가 해체되면서 현대사회는 일터 중심의 직장공동체, 인터넷과 SNS를 이용한 소통공동체로 발전하고 있다. 특히 페이스북은 소통공동체의 요건을 잘 갖추고 있어 ‘디지털 멍석’ 또는 ‘전자 들마루’ 구실을 한다. 트위터나 싸이월드와 비교하여 페이스북의 소통 기능을 주목하고 소통공동체로서 연대의식과 상호관계의 밀도가 높다는 것을 밝힌다. 종래의 인간관계가 또래 중심으로 치우쳐 있다면, 페이스북에서는 나이와 성, 국적을 넘어서 다양한 친구들과 관계를 맺기 때문에 협소한 소통 논리를 극복하고 좌우 수평관계의 민주적 소통구조를 이룬다.
페이스북 공동체의 유형은 친목과 취미, 생업, 전문성, 정치, 운동 등으로 나눌 수 있는데, 특히 정치와 운동 공동체의 활동이 적극적이다. 정치 공동체는 민주 또는 진보 지향의 활동이 두드러지고, 운동 공동체는 민주화 및 노동 운동이 중심을 이룬다. 따라서 페이스북 공동체는 사회적 약자를 위하거나 공동선을 실현하는 민주적 운동에 열렬한 관심을 보이는 경향이 있다.
기성언론이 공정하지 못할수록 페이스북은 대안언론 구실을 기능적으로 한다. 신문과 방송 보도의 편파성을 극복하기 위해, 시민들은 페이스북을 이용해 현장상황을 고발하고 자기 주장을 밝히는 취재기자와 앵커맨 구실을 주체적으로 할 수 있어서, 누구든 신문사를 경영하고 방송을 운영하는 것과 같은 효과를 낼 수 있다.
세계의 모든 시위 현장과 변혁 운동에는 페이스북이 깊이 개입하고 있다. 많은 CCTV가 우리 사회를 감시하고 있는 것보다 훨씬 더 많은 휴대용 동영상이 사람들의 호주머니 속에 들어 있다. 진실을 생생하게 찍어서 보도할 수 있고 서로 소통하고 연대하여 변혁의 꿈을 이룰 수도 있다. 조직과 위계 질서가 아니라 시민들끼리 대등하게 연대하여 집단지성과 공동체의 힘으로 부당한 권력들을 해체한다. 정치권력과 경제권력은 물론 지식권력도 해체하며 소수에게 집중된 권력을 시민들에게 분산하는 정치적 변혁 기능이 있다. 페이스북 공동체의 변혁 기능은 전 지구적으로 확산되고 있다.
권력 분산 기능과 민주적 소통 기능은 민속문화의 전통 속에서도 내재되어 있었다. 공동체의 다양한 일을 주민들의 능력과 자질에 따라 역할을 나누어 맡았으며, 길흉사의 잔치문화도 대등하게 누리며 차별없이 공유했다. 구경꾼과 합작으로 진행되는 탈춤의 연행방식도 청중과 양방향 소통으로 이루어지는 청춘콘서트의 강연방식과 만난다. 말뚝이는 구경꾼과 합작하여 소통을 거부하는 양반의 위세를 웃음거리로 만드는 것이다. 페이스북 공동체 안에서 생일축하나 장례조문과 같은 새로운 민속문화가 다양하게 형성되고 있다. 따라서 우리는 페이스북 민속을 두 갈래로 진전시킬 필요가 있다.
하나는 페이스북의 민주적 소통성과 변혁성으로 민속문화의 존재양식을 재해석하는 일이며, 둘은 새롭게 형성되는 페이스북 민속을 현실문화로 주목하여 민속학 연구로 끌어들이는 일이다. 그러므로 페이스북은 공동체문화의 가장 최근 양상을 보여주면서, 민속문화의 전통을 해석하는 새로운 논리를 제공하고, 그 자체로 우리시대의 새 민속으로서 현대 민속학의 연구대상이 된다고 할 수 있다.

영어초록

Changing process and formative conditions of a community is found in geographical proximity, commonness of work place and intimacy of communication. With dissolution of local communities, modern society is transforming into a work place community focused around jobs and communicative community based on the internet and SNS. In particular, Facebook is well equipped with requisites of a communicative community and functions as a 'digital arrangement' or 'electronic pavilion.' Attention is given on communicative functions of Facebook in comparison to Twitter and Cyworld, and high density of solidarity and mutual relationship as a communicative community is shown. Contrary to traditional human relation which is focused on peers, people make relationships with diverse friends beyond age, gender and nationality. Through this, narrow communicative logic is overcome and democratic communication structure based on horizontal relationship is formed.
Types of Facebook community are divided into friendships, hobbies, occupations, professions, politics and movements. Activities of politics and movement communities are especially enthusiastic. Politics community shows remarkable activities with democratic or progressive tendencies, and movements are focused on democratization and labor movements. Accordingly, Facebook community tends to show passionate interest on democratic movements that protect social weaklings and realize common good.
The more unfair existing media becomes, the better Facebook functions as an alternative media. In order to overcome the partiality of newspapers and broadcast coverages, citizens can take the main role as reporters and anchormen by accusing on-site situations and making their own arguments. Anyone can accomplish the same effect as managing a newspaper company or operating a broadcasting channel.
Facebook is deeply engaged in all protests and revolutionary movements around the world. More video clips are stored in mobile phones inside people's pockets than there are CCTVs that monitor our society. People can film the truth and broadcast it live, or realize the dream of reformation and change by communicating and cooperating with others. Instead of using organization and order of command, citizens are interlinked with one another in equal terms to dismantle unjust powers. They not only dissolute political and economic powers but also knowledge power. Powers that had previously been centered around selected few are not distributed to many citizens. Transformative functions of Facebook community is spreading throughout the entire planet.
Power dissolution function and democratic communicative function were also internalized in the traditions of folk culture. Residents divided roles within their community according to individual abilities and qualities. All members of folk community equally enjoyed and shared festivals without discrimination. Korean mask dance performed in concert with bystanders also encounters the youth concert composed of bi-directional communication with audiences. Malddugi is an act of ridiculing the power of aristocrats who refused any form of communication with commoners, in cooperation with bystanders. Within Facebook community, new and diverse folk cultures such as birthday celebration and funeral condolence are being created. Therefore, it is necessary to further progress Facebook folk in two ways.
First is to reinterpret the forms of folk culture using democratic communication and transformation of Facebook. Second is to focus on newly rising Facebook folk as a culture in reality and draw it into folklore studies. Hence, Facebook shows the most recent trend of community culture, while providing new logics for interpreting the traditions of folk culture and becoming a subject of research in modern folklore of our times.
