탈북과 적응이 남긴 문제에 대한 문학치료학적 접근 - 적응에 성공한 탈북여성의 사례를 중심으로 - (Literary therapeutical approach to problems remained from escaping North Korea and adapting to South Korean society -Focusing on cases of North Korean female defector who succeed to adjust-)

초록

이 연구는 2002년 한국에 입국하여 현재 연기자로 활동하는 탈북여성D를 대상으로 문학치료 활동 결과를 보고하는 논의이다. 그녀는 연기자로서 이미 많은 경력을 보유하고 있으며, 연기파 배우로 거듭나려는 목표를 설정하고 쉼 없이 노력하는 등 한국사회 내에서의 사회적 역할을 확고히 한 적응 성공 사례라고 할 수 있다. 그녀의 성공 사례는 많은 탈북민에게 본보기가 될 만하다고 판단되어 다양한 매체를 통해 소개되기도 하였다.
연구자는 건국대 통일인문학연구단에서 진행한 그녀의 인터뷰 내용을 검토하면서 부모님에 대한 특별한 감정이 있다는 것을 짐작하고, 문학치료를 기획하였다. 그녀가 특별한 반응을 보인 작품 <해와 달이 된 오누이>, <장모가 된 며느리>를 통해서 아직도 남아있는 상처와 애환을 살펴보았다. 그 결과 북한에서의 집안 몰락, 탈북 등 지난날에 대한 공포와 울분이 아직도 남아 있으며, 탈북과 무관하게 벌어진 부모님의 불화가 여러 감정들과 뒤섞인 채 기억되고 있는 트라우마적 특징을 발견했다. 표면적인 성공에 가려진 내밀한 상처를 짚어내었으며, 자신도 미처 정리하지 못한 과거의 한(恨)과 현재 삶에 대한 불만이 문학치료 활동을 통해 드러난 것이다. 이에 본고는 자신이 경험한 고난에 대한 정당한 평가와 더불어, 탈북민의 애환으로 전치된 부모님에 대한 반감을 정리할 필요가 있다고 진단하고, 자녀서사 설화에 대한 온전한 이해로서 그 해결의 실마리를 마련할 수 있다고 전망하였다.
이 연구는 적응 후에도 여전히 존재하는 탈북민의 상처에 대한 학적 관심을 시도한 논의로 기존의 탈북 후 적응 과정에서 발생하는 문제를 다루는 데 경도되었던 연구의 영역을 넓힌 작업이라고 할 수 있다. 또한 탈북과 적응 후에 남겨진 문제가 내면의 강점이나, 진로에 대한 확신만으로도 해결되기 어렵다는 문제를 지적하면서, 탈북민에 대한 사회적 관심과 조치가 깊이 있게 이뤄져야 할 필요성을 제기하였다고 할 수 있다.

영어초록

This research reports the results of literary therapy exercised on a North Korean female defector D, who had entered South Korea and currently is performing as an actress. She already has a lot of career records as an actress, and has set her goal to become the actress with real acting credentials. She keeps working for it; she would be the successful case of adjustment in which one had successfully fulfilled her social role in South Korean society. Her success story has broadcasted through diverse media judging to be an exemplary model for many North Korea escapees.
While reviewing the contents of her interview done by Konkuk University Institute of the Humanities for Unification, this researcher had assumed that she had certain special feelings for her parents, so literary therapy was exercised. Through several of her film works that she showed special response to, such as <The Brother and Sister Who Became the Sun and the Moon> and <Daughter-in-law Who Became the Mother-in-law>, we observed her scars and sorrows that are still remained inside of her.
As a result, the research has discovered the fact that anger and fear of the past events such as escaping North Korea and falling of family when she was in North Korea, are still remained. Also, traumatic traits that all of her past emotions that she had experienced before are mixed with a family feud that happened irrelevant to act of escaping were also found. Defectors’ scars hidden by ostensible success were pointedly addressed; her dissatisfaction against her current life and the past sufferings that could never be cured were also revealed through literary therapy. So this researcher has examined the importance of cleaning up the hostility against her parents which was displaced by sorrow of the escapee along with needs of proper self-evaluating of suffers she had experienced. This author prospected that the clue to the solution of this problem lies in complete understanding of epic tales.
This research demonstrates the academic interests on North Korean defectors’ mental anguish that lasts even after the adaptation. This has expanded the range of the original field of research that was only limited to deal with problems that occur during the adjustment process. Moreover, we could verify that issues which are left after escaping and adapting cannot be solved by individuals’ inner strength or certainty of their careers alone. This led us to realize that deeper social attention and measures on North Korean defectors are urgent.
