石貞詩에 대한 北社批評 硏究 (A Study of Buksa(北社)’s Critical Review of Seokjeong(石貞)’s Poems)

초록

『석정시초』는 학계에 전혀 소개되지 않은 미개척 자료로 시집으로서의 중요성뿐만 아니라 구한말의 문단을 상징적으로 대표하는 두 문인 윤병정과 김윤식이 비점과 권점을 이용해 동시에 비평을 가한 비평자료라는 점에서 문학사적 가치와 의의가 매우 크다. 본 논문은 윤병정과 김윤식을 중심으로 한 북사시회(北社詩會)의 비평양상이 석정의 시에 어떻게 적용되었는지를 구명하였다.
『석정시초』는 1책 2권의 필사본으로 5언시 99수, 7언시 144수, 진연시 27수 등 총 270수가 실려 있고 1권의 5언시와 7언시에 한정하여 비평하였다.
『석정시초』의 작가는 석정 金性濟이다. 김성제는 단천 김상우의 아들인데 이 두 사람은 학계에 처음 소개되는 인물이다. 김성제는 면천에서 김윤식을 만나 자신의 시집을 보여주었고, 이를 기회로 북사시회의 윤병정과 김윤식이 비평하였을 것으로 추정된다. 김상우는 강위 등 구한말 주요 시인들과 교유하며 자신의 문집을 남겼고, 김성제 또한 시집을 남기고 있는 것으로 보아 문학적 전통을 간직하고 있었음을 알 수 있다. 『석정시초』의 구체적인 비평 경위를 확인할 수 없지만 현재 대전에 거주하는 창녕 성씨 문중에서 보관 중이다.
윤병정과 김윤식이 활동한 19세기 후반의 북사는 시기적으로는 장동시사나 십이매화회와 거의 같은 시기에 조직된 시사임이 확실하므로 장동시사, 北社, 北山詩友會 등이 거의 같은 이름으로 일컬어졌을 것이다. 김성제의 시집을 본 김윤식은 윤병정에게 이를 소개했고, 윤병정과 뜻이 맞아 이 시집에 대해 동시에 비평을 가하게 되었다. 윤병정이 朱批를, 김윤식이 墨批를 쓴 것으로 보아 윤병정이 먼저 비평하였음을 알 수 있다.
석정시에 대한 북사비평은 윤병정은 7언시에, 김윤식은 5언시에 절대적 호평을 보였다. 그리고 내용면에서는 윤병정은 진솔한 일상의 형상화, 핍진한 경물 묘사, 탈속의 경지를 추구한 작품에 좋은 평가를 내렸다. 김윤식은 淸의 풍격, 入神의 경지, 사실적인 표현이 구현된 작품에 비점을 가해 좋은 작품으로 인정하였다. 그리고 서로 공동으로 비점한 대상은 5언시 7수, 7언시 41수로 7언시가 압도적이었다. 내용면에서는 平淡하고 脫俗한 意境을 표현한 시, 情景交融이 조화를 이루는 시, 수사적 대비가 뛰어난 시 등을 좋은 시로 평가하였다.
석정 김성제라는 인물과 그의 시집 석정시초를 학계에 처음 소개한다는 점에서 의의가 있고, 특히 북사라는 시회에서 당시 문단의 저명한 문인인 윤병정과 김윤식이 동시에 비평을 가한 한국 비평사상 유일한 자료라는 점에서 의의가 있다.

『SeokjeongSicho(石貞詩鈔)』 has a significant value and meaning in the history of literature in that it is not only a collection of poems that has not been introduced to academia, but also a critical review in which Yoon Byung-jung and Kim Yoon-sik, two representative figures of late Joseon Dynasty literature circle, critiqued Seokjeong’s poems through the use of circles and dots. The purpose of this paper is to find out how the critical review of the Buksa Poetry Society(北社詩會) centered around Yoon Byung-jung and Kim Yoon-sik was applied to Seokjeong's poems.
『SeokjeongSicho』 is a 2-volume manuscript book and contains 270 poems by Seokjeong in total, including 99 5-word poems, 144 7-word poems and 27 banquet poems. Among these, Buksa members Yoon Byung-jung and Kim Yoon-sik restricted their critiques to the 5-word and 7-word poems in Volume 1.
『SeokjeongSicho』 was written by Seokjeong Kim Seong-jae(金性濟), who is the son of Dancheon Kim Sang-woo. These two men have never been introduced in the academia prior to this work. Kim Seong-jae and Kim Yoon-sik first met in Suncheon and later reunited when Kim Yoon-sik was exiled to Myeoncheon, which is when we assume Kim Seong-jae to have presented his works to Kim Yoon-sik for the reviews by Yoon Byung-jun and Kim Yoon-sik of Buksa Poetry Society. From the poetry exchanged between Kim Sang-woo and major poets of late Joseon Dynasty such as Kang Yui and the poetry books left by Kim Seong-jae, we can see that there is a literary tradition kept within the family. Although we cannot identify exactly how the criticisms happened, 『SeokjeongSicho』 is preserved within the Changnyeong Seong family household residing in Daejeon.
Buksa is believed to have been called almost the same as Jangdongsisa, Buksa and Buksansiuhoe(北山詩友會) because it is sure to have been organized around the same time as Jangdongsisa and Sipyimaehwahoe. It is presumed that Kim Yoon-sik, as a medium, critiqued the poetry together with Yoon Byung-jung of the Buksa Poetry Society. We can see that Yoon Byung-sik was the first to critique in that Yung Byung-jung used red circles and dots(朱批) and Kim Yun-sik used black circles and dots(墨批).
In Buksa’s criticism of Seokjeong’s poems, Yoon Byung-jung and Kim Yoon-sik were absolutely favorable to Seokjeong’s 7-word poems and 5-word poems respectively. In terms of content, Yoon Byung-jung gave good reviews for poems, which portrayed honest daily life, described the scenary realistically and pursued the unworldly stage. Kim Yoon-sik highly recognized poems, which embodied the preference of the style of purity(淸), the status of divinity(入神) and realistic expressions by adding circles and dots. In addition, it was 7-word poems that were overwhelmingly praised, with 7 5-word poems and 41 7-word poems jointly praised with circles and dots. In terms of content, poems that expressed the simple and unworldly status of mind, poems that harmonized emotions with the scenary, and poems with excellent rhetorical contrast, etc. were evaluated as good poems.
This work presents Seokjeong Kim Seong-jae and his poetry 『SeokjeongSicho』 for this first time in academia, which is valuable in that it is the only piece of literature in history of Korea that two renowned figures of the Buksa Poetry Society, Yoon Byung-jun and Kim Yoon-sik critiqued together.
