초록

The 'Story of Cinderella type' is a worldwide tale concerning conflicts between stepmother and stepdaughter. Kongjipatji and Pla Boothong both belong to this type. Kongjipatji is a nationwide folktale and Pla Boothong is a representative tale of the central part of Thailand.
A tale is not an individual creation but a socio-cultural context, so contains the way of life and thinking, customs, beliefs and the value systems of the people.
The two tales have little difference in the content of description but generally, have common descriptive structures such as the death of the two heroine's mothers, the maltreatment of the stepmother, the help from the heaven, marriage and happiness of the heroines, death of the heroines by the entrap of the stepmother and stepsister, rebirth of the dead heroines, the punishment to stepmother and stepsister and so on.
Throughout these two tales, we learned that it is very similar for people of two countries both to have supernatural beliefs with the Buddhist faith and their traditional society as feudalistic and hierarchical.
There is a motif of the shoes in Kongjipatji but none in Pla Boothong, but has the pipal tree instead. The role of the shoes and the pipal tree, however, is similar.
Another difference is that Pla Boothong ends with the family happiness according to the Buddha teaching which is not in Kongjipatji. Furthermore, the reason why the motif of the shoes and chopsticks is only expressed in Kongjipatji is seen as the difference from the climate and dietary life.
Above all, fantasy tales by supernatural character's appearance is not only being mystical but also reflecting the people's world view at that time which says that god will give blessings to those who act good deed and give punishment to those who act wrong doings. It gives the people the courage, strong will and patience to overcome the adversity and hardships, who have been suffered and suppressed in daily life.
