『 물명유해』의 향약명 관련 어휘 고찰 - ‘지도부’를 대상으로 (Examination of Vocabulary Related to the Hyangyak Terminology in Mulmyeongyuhae)

초록

이 글은 부산대학교 소장 필사본 『 물명유해(物名類解)』의 ‘지도부(地道部)’에 기술된 어휘 가운데 향약명과 관련된 항목을 대상으로 어휘사적 측면에서 분석한 것이다. 향약명의 대부분이 식물명인 점을 고려하여 ‘지도부’의 어휘로 대상을 한정하고, 고대 국어 시기부터 비롯된 향약명 어휘가 어떻게 반영되어 있는지를 비교 분석하였다.
『 물유』는 이학규가 편찬한 것으로 590개 항목으로 구성된 분류어휘집이다. 저자와 증보자의 생몰연대, 표기법 등을 고려하면 18세기 말에서 19세기 초의 것으로 추정된다. ‘지도부’의 어휘 항목 122개 가운데 향약명 어휘와 관련 있는 것은 75개이다. 표제어와 풀이항의 어휘 모두가 의서와 동일한 항목은 23개로 30.7%, 표제어와 풀이항의 어휘 가운데 하나라도 다른 형태를 보이는 항목은 44개로 58.7%, 유사 혹은 오류 항목은 8개 10.6%로 나타났다. 『 물유』가 새 어휘를 많이 담고 있음을 알 수 있다.
향약명 관련 어휘 가운데, 의서에서는 찾을 수 없는 고유어는 ‘개ᄯᅮᆨ괄’, ‘솔긔챵이’, ‘ᄉᆡ금’, ‘ᄭᅮᆯ밤ᄭᅡᆨ쟝이’, ‘쟌다귀’ 등 모두 21개가 확인되었다. 이는 어휘사적으로 소중한 성과이다. 표제어가 의서와 다른 경우는 ‘栗毬’, ‘麻核桃’, ‘蘋婆’ 등 모두 22개 항목인데 저자의 의식을 엿볼 수 있는 대목이다. 의서에서 찾기 어려운 새 이칭은 ‘蔓參’, ‘桑鷄’, ‘紅姑娘’ 등 모두 17개가 나타났다. 이들은 모두 향약명 목록에 추가되어야 한다. 이칭으로 기록된 것 가운데 ‘炟艾’, ‘淡婆’, ‘澹婆姑’, ‘沙果’, ‘鼠目太’, ‘水靑木’ 등은 차자표기임을 밝혔고, 표제어와 풀이항의 대응에 오류가 있는 항목도 바로잡았다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study is to examine the vocabulary related to Hyangyak Terminology in Jidobu of Mulmyeongyuhae. In this study, 47 items related to Hyangyak Terminology were extracted and the Chinese names, native words, and nicknames were found in each item, and analyzed how they differ from those in the medical book. The results of the analysis are summarized as conclusions.
First, among the lexical items of chapter ‘Jido’, there are 75 that are related to the Hyangyak Terminology. Among these, 23 show the same form as the medical books, and this is 30.7% of the total. On the other hand, there are 44 items that show a form different from the medical book, and this is 58.7% of the total. The rate of displaying different forms is more than times higher than sharing the same form.
Second, the new 21 native words that cannot be found in medical books are as follows; ‘gangnamsusi’, ‘gaesdukgwal’, ‘golpa’, ‘gossongi’, ‘nyeobambakyeosdeongumeong’, ‘nyeonsgossusul’, ‘dangsjilnesghs’, ‘meongdeoksdaal’, ‘muloe’, ‘mulpurinamu’, ‘bulgeunbireum’, ‘solguichyangi’, ‘sʌigeum’, ‘sgulbamsgakjyangi’, ‘sduksgwal’, ‘waesyeoknyu’, ‘jyandagwi’, ‘jyuinungong’, ‘jipnarami’, ‘cheongdʌisjugi’, ‘seseourimbamʌigeujyunggaundʌinaschira’ etc. It is judged to be valuable in terms of lexical history in that there are many more completely new forms than those that are similar in form to existing Hyangyak Terminology.
Third, Chinese headwords that are different from existing medical books are 22 words for examples ‘錦葵’, ‘白樳木’, ‘鴈來紅’ etc. And 17 new Chinese nicknames appeared, including ‘蔓參’, ‘桑鷄’, ‘么荷’, ‘紅姑娘’ etc. These are all Chinese names that should be newly included in the list of nicknames for existing Hyangyak Terminology.
Forth, among the Chinese nicknames, those that are judged to be transcription with borrowed characters are ‘炟艾[dalae]’, ‘淡婆[damba]’, ‘澹婆姑[dambago]’, ‘沙果[sagwa]’, ‘鼠目太[jwinunikong]’, and ‘水靑木[mulpeurenamo]’ etc.
Although this is a result of analysis limited to the chapter ‘Jido’ of Mulmyeongyuhae. it is judged to be significant in terms of lexical history in that both native and Chinese names record many new word forms in terms of the lexical system of Hyangyak Terminology. This is presumed to be the result of reflecting the everyday language of the time rather than simply following what was historically recorded. Furthermore, a more extensive work will be carried out to compare the vocabulary of product names and the Hyangyak Terminology to lay the foundation for the systematic history of Korean vocabulary.
