    초록

    In the current study, measurment of the physiological activity and cytotoxites of cosmetic material from pressure heating water extract from Nelumbo nucifera byproducts (shoot, leaves, seedpod) with different extract mixing ratios (ME1, 1:1:1; ME2, 2:1:1; ME3, 1:2:1; ME4, 1:1:2; ME5, 1:2:2:) was performed. The highest contents of total polyphenol and flavonoid compounds were 114.33 mg/g and 259.01 mg/g in ME1. The results of the radical scavenging of ABTS and DPPH, showed that highest scavenging rates, 97.34% and 99.81%, respectively, were detected in ME3 at a concentration of 1,000 ㎍/mL. All extracts exhibited more than 98% ABTS radical scavenging ability at a concentration of 2,000 ㎍/mL, and in measurement of the radical scavenging activity of DPPH, ME1, and ME2, the highest scavenging rates were 93.28% and 93.39%, respectively, at a concentration of 1,000 ㎍/mL.
    The highest level of superoxide dismutase (SOD)-like activity, 37.65%, was observed for ME1 at a concentration of 2,000 ㎍/mL; the highest inhibition activities, 61.52% and 61.30%, were observed for tyrosinase inhibition in ME2 and ME1. The highest activity, 71.05%, was observed for collagneae inhibition activities in ME1, and the highest astringent effect, 50.64%, was observed in ME3. Cytotoxicity testing of the extract mixture on RAW264.7 macrophages and HaCaT keratinocytes was performed using the MTT assay. Results regarding cell toxicity of RAW264.7 macrophages and HaCaT keratinocytes demonstrated that cell survival was not reduced at a concentration of 25~100 ㎍/mL. Compared with the LPS-treated group, production of NO was reduced by ME1 by approximately 14.55% at a concentration of over 200 ㎍/mL. These results demonstrated the exceptional anti-aging, antioxidant activity of ME1 and ME2. Therefore, it can be concluded that the mixture of shoots, leaves and seedpod of N.
    nucifera, has potential for use as functional ingredients for improvement of beauty, food, and skin health.
