부인명(夫人名) 대중소설에 나타난 여성의식 연구 ―정비석의 《自由夫人》과 전병순의 《賢夫人》을 중심으로 (A Study on the Feminine Consciousness Shown in the Lady-Named Popular Novels)

초록

이 글에서는 부인명(夫人名) 대중소설에 나타난 여성 작중인물의 정체성을 여성주의적 시각에서 접근하였다. 우선 정비석의 <自由夫人>에서 대학교수 부인인 오선영 여사는 사적 영역에서는 천사의 이미지를 가진 현모양처의 여성상을 보여주지만, 공적 영역에 진출한 후 부정적인 마녀의 이미지로 탈바꿈한다. 마녀의 이미지는 전후사회의 혼란상과 결합하여 결혼한 여성의 사회적 진출을 의심스러운 시선으로 바라보게 한다. 그것은 제도권 밖의 사랑을 꿈꾸는 과정과 병치되면서 결혼생활에 대한 반성과 함께 해방의 매순간이 대중적 재미를 이끌어낸다. 하지만 편집자적 논평은 결혼한 여성의 사회적 정체성을 현모양처에 국한시켜 강화시키고 있다. 이는 부인명(夫人名) 대중소설에서 결혼한 여성의 사회적 정체성을 편향적으로 코드화하고 대중화하는 결과를 낳는다.
다음으로 전병순의 <賢夫人>에서 전문직 여성인 현주는 여성 해방이 현실화되지 못하는 모순적 국면들을 전경화시키고 있다. 그것은 그녀가 사적․공적 영역을 오가며 슈퍼우먼적 역량을 드러내야 하는 중압감과 이를 간과하는 가부장적인 남편의 태도로 드러난다. 특히 남편의 문란한 성생활은 대중에게 일탈의 묘미를 선사함과 동시에 당대의 사회상과 결합하여 결혼생활의 낭패감을 폭넓게 환기시킨다. 하지만 현주의 자가당착은 사직(辭職)이라는 양가적 전략이다. 남편의 변화의지가 전무한 상황에서 사직은 내면화된 현모양처의 커다란 그림자를 각인시키며 주체를 소멸시키기 때문이다. 이렇듯 부인명 대중소설에서 부인(夫人)은 지배적인 가부장적 질서에서 자유롭지 못하지만 부인을 코드화하면서 보여준 재미와 문제의식은 한국사회에서 여성의식의 점진적인 변화를 시사한다.

영어초록

This study seeks to analyse the identity of woman characters shown in the lady-named popular novels from the view of feminine standpoint. First Oh, Seon-Young who is a wife of a professor in Free Lady of Bi-Seok Jeong is evaluated differently from various activity fields. In the private part, she shows the figure of good wife and wise mother with the angel image. But in the public part, her image is changed into the negative figure with the witch image. The witch image may have the social entry of the married lady regarded as the doubtful vision, namely the confusion image after the Korean War. And this stimulates the popular interest by means of the liberation which may be caused from the reflection on the incoherent marriage life, paralleling the dreaming process for the anti-institutional love. Nevertheless, the editorial comment reinforces the social identity of married women within the image of good wife and wise mother, which brings the result of the biased feminine identity of married women in the lady-named popular novels.
Next, the professional woman, Hyun-Joo, shows the foreground for the contradiction image who doesn't realize woman liberation in Wise Lady of Byung-Soon Jeon. The desire of woman liberation is due to the depression of superwoman ability around private and public fields and the patriarchal attitude of her husband. Especially, the disordered sex life of her husband gives the public the deviation exquisiteness and rouses the frustration of marriage life related with the contemporary social aspect, as well. But the contradiction of Hyun- Joo is the double-valued strategy for the resignation. When the possibility of her husband's change willingness doesn't exist, the double-valued strategy carves the image of good wife and wise mother and extinguishes the subject. Like this, the 'Lady' in lady-named popular novels tries to change the marriage life, but is never free from the dominant patriarchal order. Nevertheless, the interest and problematic consciousness which can be shown in popular novels suggest the progressive change of the feminine consciousness in Korea.
