초록

<용비어천가>에 관한 종래의 연구들은 대개 『용비어천가』 서책 속에 수록된 국문가사를 위주로 이루어졌을 뿐, 본 작품이 실제 향유․수용되는 양상에 대해서까지는 아직 구체적으로 논의가 전개되지 못했던 것이 사실이다. 이 논문은 <봉래의> 정재를 중심으로 <용비어천가>의 향유․수용양상을 검토하고 그 의미를 분석하는 데 목적을 둔다. 그 논의결과를 항목별로 정리하면 다음과 같다.
1. <용비어천가> 전체 125장은 내밀한 구조를 지니고 있으며, 각각의 특성에 따라 크게 다섯 개의 단락으로 구분할 수 있다.
2. <용비어천가>에는, ‘선왕의 성덕과 성공을 칭술하는 것(稱述先王盛德成功)’과 ‘자손들이 지켜야 할 도리로 삼는 것(爲子孫保守之道)’이라는 두 가지 지향이 내재되어 있다.
3. <용비어천가>가 呈才 형태로 연행될 때에는 따로 ‘鳳來儀’라는 이름으로 불리었는데, <봉래의> 정재는 『세종실록악보』․『악학궤범』과 『대악후보』 및 『정재무도홀기』를 거치면서 그 모습과 강조점이 변화된다.
4. 『세종실록악보』․『악학궤범』 소재 <봉래의>에서부터 ‘칭술선왕성덕성공’을 드러내는 내용을 위주로 가사가 배치되고 ‘위자손보수지도’ 쪽은 제약되는 특성이 나타난다.
5. 『대악후보』에서는 제125장이 생략되면서 위와 같은 지향이 강화된다.
6. 『정재무도홀기』에서는 <봉래의> 정재의 형태가 전반적으로 크게 변화한다. 특히 본래 가사의 내용을 바꾸면서까지 ‘칭술선왕성덕성공’을 강조하거나 ‘위자손보수지도’의 의미가 잠재적으로라도 드러나는 부분을 세밀하게 삭제․변개했던 특성이 발견된다. 정재 전체의 지향을 완연히 ‘칭술선왕성덕성공’ 쪽으로 집중하려 했던 것이다.
7. <봉래의> 정재에 이러한 특성들이 지속적으로 나타나는 것은, 임금이 등좌한 연행현장에서 ‘위자손보수지도’의 뜻을 직접 전달하기가 어려웠던 사정 때문으로 분석된다.
8. 이와 대비되는 사례로서 『용비어천가約本』을 들 수 있는데, 『약본』은 지방 관헌들과 일반 백성에게 유포할 목적으로 제작되었음에도 불구하고 ‘위자손보수지도’의 뜻이 <봉래의> 정재는 물론 <용비어천가> 원작에서보다도 오히려 강조된 형태로 나타난다.
9. 이러한 편차는, 애초에 <용비어천가>가 제작될 당시부터 이 작품에 왕권과 신권 사이의 첨예한 정치적 갈등 요소가 내재되어 있었다는 사실을 반증한다. 잠재적 긴장 요인이 『용비어천가』 서책 속에서는 잘 드러나지 않다가 작품이 연행되는 상황에 와서야 표면화되면서 뚜렷한 편차를 낳았던 것이다.

영어초록

Former studies on Yongbieocheon-ga(Songs of Flying Dragons Through Heavens, 龍飛御天歌) were largely focused on the lyrics included in the printed texts and, therefore, there was no concrete discourse about the ways how it was enjoyed and accepted. This dissertation is aimed at looking into the ways how Yongbieocheon-ga was enjoyed and accepted and analyzing their meanings, focusing on Bongnae-ui(鳳來儀) Jeongjae(呈才, Court Dance and Music). The following is the conclusion of this study.
1. Composed of a total of 125 chapters, Yongbieocheon-ga has a well organized structure and, in general, could be divided into five parts by characteristics.
2. Yongbieocheon-ga has two main directions in it: one is to praise the flourishing virtues and achievements of previous kings and the other is to have reasons and propriety that the succeeding kings should observe.
3. When performed in the forms of songs and dances in the royal palaces, Yongbieocheon-ga was called by another name, that is Bongnae-ui. Bongnae-ui was performed in different features and different emphases, as it was revised in various literatures from Sejongsillok-akbo(世宗實錄樂譜)․Akhakgwebeom(樂學軌範) and Daeakhubo(大樂後譜) to Jeongjaemudoholgi(呈才舞圖笏記).
4. Lyrics are rearranged in Bongnae-ui of Sejongsillok-akbo․Akhakgwebeom, largely focusing on the praise for the precedents and restricting the other lesson for the descendents.
5. In Daeakhubo, Chapter 125 is omitted and the aforementioned trend is further strengthened.
6. Bongnae-ui goes through a drastic change in general in Jeongjaemudoholgi. While some lyrics were intentionally altered to put more stress on the praise for the predecessors, those indicating the duties of the descendents were minutely changed or even deleted. It means the entire direction of the songs and dances was meant to be concentrated on the first tenor, or praise for the previous kings.
7. The continuous trend in the songs and dances of Bongnae-ui is attributable to the difficulty to directly deliver the message about the piety or other duties of the succeeding kings in face of the king in the performance.
8. Yongbieocheon-ga Yakbon(龍飛御天歌約本) could be taken as an example that makes a comparison to the abovementioned literatures. Although it was made for distribution and circulation among local officials and ordinary people, the message about the duty of succeeding kings are emphasized more in this Yakbon than in the original work of Yongbieocheon-ga as well as Bongnae-ui.
9. These differences prove that there were factors of an acute political discord between the royal authority and the power of the retainers within Yongbieocheon-ga from the very point when the work was composed. In other words, factors of the potential tension did not appear well in the initial form of Yongbieocheon-ga. But they gradually came to surface as the work was performed in the form of songs and dances later, revealing stark contrasts.
