초록

동아시아에서 ‘史’의 개념은 과거 사실을 기록하여 지나간 사건의 옳고 그름을 판단하여 결정하고, 이를 통해 현재의 교훈을 얻고자 하는 것이었다. 조선 전기 이후로는 ‘史’의 개념에 ‘정통의 계승’이라는 의미가 추가되었다. 그러나 1905년 전후 ‘사’의 개념은 ‘국민국가의 역사’, ‘민족의 역사’라는 의미로 자리 잡게 되었다. 이와같은 의미의 역사 개념이 자리 잡는데 가장 큰 역할을 한 인물은 신채호라 할 수 있다.
신채호가 한국역사에서 근대 역사의 ‘아버지’라 불리는 이유는 두 가지이다. 첫째는 신채호가 왕조의 정통성을 옹호하는 왕조사에서 탈피하여 한국사를 한국민족의 역사로 파악하고자 하였다는 점이다. 그리고 둘째는 한국사 서술을 위한 실증적, 고증적 방법을 강조하였기 때문이다. 그러나 신채호의 역사 서술태도에는 18세기 실학자였던 안정복의 역사인식에서 영향 받은 부분들이 많이 나타난다.
신채호가 안정복의 역사학에서 계승하고자 했던 것은 그의 정밀한 고증의 방법과 이를 통한 기존 역사서에 대한 비판적 태도, 그리고 통사 서술이었다. 특히 신채호는 지리고증방법론을 이용하여 한국 고대사 연구를 진행하는 과정에서 안정복의 강역론에 영향을 받았으며, 안정복의 추론 과정을 인정하며 수용하고 있음을 알 수 있다. 특히 단군 강역론은 그대로 수용하고 있다. 그리고 이러한 인식의 연장선상에 ‘단군인식’이 있었던 것이다. 그리고 이러한 인식은 한국 역사의 공간을 확대시키는 결과일 뿐 아니라 한국 역사를 체계화시키는 결과를 가지고 왔다고 할 수 있다.

영어초록

In East Asia, the concept of ‘history’ has the meaning of judgement and decision about good and evil, or right and wrong at past incidents, and also meaning of recording for drawing a lesson at this time from past facts. After early days of the Joseon dynasty, the concept of history had also been included the meaning, ‘succession of legitimacy.’ The concept of history, around the year of 1905, had got settled ‘history of nation-state’ or ‘racial history.’ On the settlement process of the concept of history, the individual who has had the biggest impact on is Shin Chaeho.
It has two reasons that Shin Chaeho has been called ‘Father’ of Korea modern history. First, he has bailed out of dynasty history supporting legitimacy of dynasty, and then focused on the Korea nation’s history. And second, he has emphasized on the historical describing method with empirical and historical evidence research. But the modernity of Shin Chaeho at the historical description attitude and historical perception has not just only affected by Liang Qi Chao of China and Western historian. Although in several aspects, he has not only been affected on the historical research method by Liang Qi Chao, but also influenced historical narrative attitude by An Jeongbok, late Chosun dynasty Silhak Scholar.
Through the An Jeongbok’s history, Shin Chaeho has intended to succeed on his precise historical evidence research method, assuming a critical attitude to the existing historical book, and description of General History. Especially, he has been affected on the process of studying at Korean ancient history by historical geographic method through the territory theory of An Jeongbok, and also accepted with conceding the reasoning process of An Jeongbok. He has accepted Tangun’s territory, and also got extended the recognition to ‘Tangun’s recognition.’ Shin Chaeho has described Korean history centered on the nation emphasizing on ‘Tangun,’ and also selected Buyeo tribe as a central nation of historic system. Through that he has intended to instill national and racial consciousness. He has established Korean history system centered on Buyeo tribe, similar to An Jeongbok’s ‘Dongsagangmok’ on which Tangun has figured out as a starting point of legitimacy and also historic era has classified by the system of Korean orthodox family dynasty.
It has the characteristic describing feature of An Jeongbok’s territory that Yodong region has been Korean territory from Tangun and Gija era. This point has got result to extend our historic space. That consciousness has also much influenced to 20th historian, Shin Chaeho.
