고분으로 본 6세기 전후 백제와 왜 관계 (The Relations between Baekje and Wa in the Sixth Century Based upon Ancient Tombs)

초록

본고에서는 고분을 통하여 6세기 전후 한반도와 일본열도의 관계에 대해 접근하고자 하였다. 한반도에 분포하고 있는 왜계석실, 전방후원분과 畿內지역에서 출현하는 초기 횡혈식석실은 공히 6세기 전후 출현하나 지금까지 별개의 양상으로만 인식하여 왔다. 그러나 이러한 관점에서 벗어나 공시적인 관점에서 전체적인 맥락을 살펴보았다.
먼저 한반도에 분포하고 있는 왜계석실의 축조유형을 분석한 결과 九州지역의 석실의 요소가 그대로 반영된 석실들과 왜계요소와 더불어 재지계 요소가 반영된 석실들이 있음을 파악하고 그 양상에 따라 세 유형으로 분류하였다. 1유형은 北部九州系 석실을 그대로 반영하는 왜계석실, 2유형은 有明海연안의 肥後型 석실을 그대로 답습하는 왜계석실, 그리고 이 두 유형과 다르게 3유형은 왜계요소에 재지요소가 더해져 축조되는 왜계석실로 설정하였다.
이 왜계석실들은 재지 수장묘역에, 왜계요소와 재지요소가 더해지는 형태로 한반도에 출현하며 이후 北部九州系 석실을 그대로 답습하는 왜계석실들이 집중하여 축조되는 것으로 파악하였다. 그리고 왜계요소가 확실하게 갖추어지고, 한반도에서 형식학적 변화를 전혀 구할 수 없고 단절적이라는 점을 근거로 재지의 선택적 도입이라는 주장은 인정하기 어렵다는 것을 밝혔다. 또한 왜계석실이 축조되는 상황에 대한 가설을 토대로 九州지역에서 건너온 조묘집단이 아닌 재지의 조묘집단에 의해 축조되는 것으로 파악하였다.
그리고 이와 같은 시기인, 5세기 후엽이 되면 백제 중앙과 야마토정권은 왕족의 외교, 선진문물 전파 등의 밀접한 관계속에서 백제계의 도래인에 의해 초기 횡혈식석실이 출현하고, 이에 반대급부로써 야마토정권은 인적･물적자원을 지원하였다고 보았다. 그 과정에서 야마토정권이 九州지역 세력을 이용하였기 때문에 九州지역의 석실과 전방후원분이 영산강유역에 축조된다. 결국 단순히 석실의 형태만을 통해 백제와 畿內, 영산강유역과 九州처럼 단절적인 관계로 파악하기보다, 이 시기 전체적인 맥락에서 보면 백제 중앙-畿內-九州-영산강유역으로 연결되는 다자간의 관계가 상정된다.

영어초록

In this paper, I analyze the tombs and discuss the political relationship between the Korean peninsula and the Japanese islands around the sixth century. The appearance of Japanese-style stone chamber tombs and keyhole shaped tombs on the Korean peninsula and the appearance of the early stone chamber tombs in Japan's Kinai region were common during the sixth century. Archeologists believe that the two phenomena are separate phenomena.
However, I have moved away from these traditional perspectives, and have examined the whole context from a synchronic view point. Thus, I first analyzed the Japanese-style stone chamber tombs distributed on the Korean Peninsula and found that there were two types of stone chamber tombs. The first is the stone chamber tombs that reflect the elements of the northern Kyushu-style stone chamber tombs. The seceond is the stone chamber tombs combined with Japanese elements and indigenous elements according to their aspects. I subdivided these stone chamber tombs into three types.
Type 1 is stone chamber tombs that reflect the northern Kyushu-style stone chamber tombs.
Type 2 is stone chamber tombs that imitate "type higo" stone chamber tombs distributed along the coast of the Ariake Sea.
Type 3 is stone chamber tombs that are a combination of Japanese elements and local elements.
These Japanese style stone chamber tombs come in the form of a combination of Japanese elements and indigenous elements in the native burial ground. Thus, I believe that the stone chamber tombs of the northern Kyushu-style stone chamber tombs were imitated and intensively constructed on the Korean peninsula.
I believe it is difficult to accept the argument that native chiefdoms of the indigenous peoples had accepted Japanese-style stone chamber tombs because the Japanese elements were firmly established. Such a pattern of typological change on the Korean Peninsula can not be found at all. In addition, this is a disconnected and independent phenomenon from the typological change in the Japanese islands.
I also discovered that the chamber tombs were built by local groups constructing graves, and not by groups building graves who crossed over from Kyushu, on the basis of a hypothesis regarding the circumstances of the Japanese-style stone chamber tombs being built. At the same time, at the end of the fifth century, the Baekje Kingdom and the Yamato Kingdom were closely related through diplomatic relations between the ruling families and the propagation of advanced culture. In return, the Yamato kingdom was believed to have provided human and material resources.
In the course of this process, the Yamato kingdom used local forces in the Kyushu region, and the stone chamber tombs and keyhole-shaped tombs of the Kyushu region were constructed based upon those in the Yeongsan River basin in the Korean peninsula.
In the end, it is not accurate to simply identify the relationship between Baekje and the Kinai area, the Yeongsan River basin, and the Kyushu region, From the overall treatment of this period, I believe that it was a multilateral relationship that led to the Baekje Kingdom-Yamato Kingdom-Kyushu region and the Yeongsan River basin forces.
