비동일성의 관점에서 본 로컬리티와 표상 (Locality and Representation Considered from the Viewpoint of Nonidentity)

초록

이 글에서는 탈근대적 비동일성의 사유에 기반하여 로컬리티의 개념 및 생성과 존재 양상, 의미의 문제를 구체적으로 살펴보고, 이와 함께 동일성의 대표적 개념인 표상의 연구범주 설정이 가진 한계와 해결 가능성을 모색해보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 먼저 동일성과 비동일성의 사유를 ‘원형’, ‘시뮬라크르(사건)’의 문제와 관련하여 살피고, 비동일성의 사유의 대표적 개념인 들뢰즈의 ‘사건’을 조명하였다. 그리고 ‘사건’ 개념을 로컬리티 연구에 전유함으로써 로컬리티의 생성과 존재 양상, 의미, 표상의 문제를 논의하였다. 순간적이고 유동적이며 원형을 상정할 수 없는 ‘사건’은 잠재성을 가지고 유동적으로 흐르다가 발현됨으로써 현실화된다. 이는 공간과 시간, 사회구조, 인간의 접합, 로컬 내외부의 상호작용을 통해 구성되는 로컬리티가 유동적이며 원형을 상정할 수 없다는 점, 로컬리티가 잠재적인 것과 발현되는 것으로 나뉘는 점 등과 유사하다. 또한 사건이 발현되면서 계열화를 통해 다양하게 의미화 되는 것 역시 로컬리티가 특정 국면에서 발현되면서 계열화를 통해 다양하게 의미화 되는 양상과 유사하다. 나아가 다양하게 의미화된 로컬리티는 표상된 후 맥락의 변화에 의해 재의미화 되는데, 이런 점에서 로컬리티 연구에서 표상은 사유방식으로서의 표상이 아닌 재현으로 해석된다. 이처럼 사건의 개념과 생성, 의미의 문제에 주목하여 이를 로컬리티 연구에 전유할 때, 비동일성의 사유에 기반한 로컬리티의 특성과 국면에 따라 다양하게 생성되고 계열화되고 표상/재현되는 로컬리티가 차이의 존재로서 사유될 수 있다. 그리고 다양한 로컬리티의 표상/재현의 가능성과 맥락에 따른 재의미화를 통해 표상/재현이 동일성의 원리로 수렴되는 경로를 차단하고 비동일성의 사유로 나아갈 수 있는 가능성이 열리게 된다.

영어초록

The aim of this study is to review the concept and becoming of locality and the question of its signification based on the thought of postmodern nonidentity and also to examine the limitations and possibilities of the research category set for representation, which is a typical concept of identity. For this purpose, this paper first examined thoughts of identity and nonidentity in relation to the question of 'archetype', and shed light on Deleuze's 'event' which is a representative concept of nonidentity thinking. Then, by appropriating the concept of 'event' to the study of locality, it discussed the becoming and significance of locality and the case of representation.
An 'event,' which is transient and fluid and for which an archetype cannot be postulated, flows in a state of flux with virtuality until it manifests itself to become a reality. This is similar to the idea that locality, constructed through space and time, social structure, human connection, and internal- external interaction of a locale, is fluid and cannot assume an archetype. This is analogous to the fact that locality is divided into what is latent and what is revealed. That an event bears meaning in various ways through systematization after its manifestation is also similar to how locality manifests in certain conditions and becomes meaningful in different ways through systematization. Furthermore, locality, which is signified in various ways, is signified once again through contextual changes after it is represented.
Thus, when event is appropriated to the study of locality focusing on its concept and becoming and the question of its signification, locality generated and systematized in various ways according to its features and aspects grounded on nonidentity thinking, can be thought as the existence of difference. In addition, through various possibilities of representation and its resignification, the path of converging representation towards the principle of identity is blocked opening the possibility to move towards nonidentity thinking.
