‘연안(延安)’으로 본 김사량의 <노마만리> (A Study on Kim Saryang's Nomamnri from the Perspective of Yan'an)

초록

본고는 김사량의 <노마만리>에 대한 기존의 평가－저항문학, 항일문학-틀에서 벗어나 해방 직후 ‘연안’ 담론 속에서 김사량의 <노마만리>가 수용되는 과정 및 작품 속에 나타나 있는 ‘연안’의 흔적들을 추적해봄으로써 김사량과 <노마만리>에 대한 논의를 보충, 확장하고자 했다.
중국 공산혁명의 발원지인 연안(延安)은 중일전쟁 발발 후 미국기자 에드가 스노에 의해 전 세계에 알려지게 되었으며 신속하게 ‘항일의 성지’로 부각되었다. 당시 중국 내 지식인뿐만 아니라 중국에서 항일 독립운동을 하던 많은 조선인 애국지사들도 항일의 꿈을 안고 연안에 몰려들었으며 차츰 자신의 군대와 정치조직을 갖추고 중국 공산당과 함께 항일의 전선에서 싸웠다. 일본 패전 후 이들이 귀국하면서 ‘연안’이라는 장소는 해방 직후의 조선에서도 ‘항일’의 대명사로 부각되었다. 김사량과 그의 <노마만리> 역시 이러한 분위기 속에서 조선의용군의 항일 이야기로 수용되었다. 그러나 김사량의 <노마만리>에서 ‘연안’은 ‘항일의 성지’라는 의미에서 한 발 나아가 항전 승리 후 찾아오게 될 ‘미래’와 관련 있는 장소로서 건국을 눈앞에 둔 탈식민 주체들이 참조해야 할 새로운 방향을 제시해주는 것이었다. 동시에 김사량에게 있어 도래해야 할 미래상으로서의 ‘연안’은 유토피아적 공간으로서의 고향, 되찾아야 할 과거의 고향과 긴밀히 연관되어 있다.
관련하여 김사량이 1945년에 중국 태항산으로 탈출 당시 연안에서 시작된 ‘정풍운동’을 떠올리지 않을 수 없다. 정풍운동으로 인해 연안을 비롯한 여러 항일근거지에서는 지식인의 사상 개조를 위한 자기비판이 일상화되며 지식인을 주인공으로 하는 자기비판의 서사가 근거지 문예 창작의 중요한 한 갈래로 자리매김하게 되었다. <노마만리> 역시 정풍운동의 영향 아래에서 소부르주아라는 출신성분에 대한 작가 자신의 끊임없는 부정과 비판의 흔적이 곳곳에 드러나 있다. 따라서 자기 비판적 시각에서 다시 본 <노마만리>는 해방기의 단순한 ‘연안’ 이야기가 아니었으며 ‘연안’ 이야기를 통한 김사량 자신의 이야기기도 했다.

영어초록

Previous researchers incline to classify Kim Saryang’s Nomamanri into the category of “resistant literature” and “Anti-Japanese literature”. This paper intends to study Nomamanri by paying close attention to “Yan’an influence”; tries to explore how Nomamanri is accepted among the Yan’an stories after the liberation of China and attempts to trail the Yan’an influence in this work as the supplement and enrichment to the study of it.
Yan’an, the place of origin of the regime of the Chinese Communist Party, was introduced to the whole world through the report of an American journalist, Edgar Snow and quickly became the sacred place of the resistance against Japan. After that, in addition to the Chinese intellectuals and people of resolve, many Korean patriots who launched the anti-Japanese movement in China streamed into Yan’an with their anti-Japanese dreams and set up the “Korean Volunteer Army” and their own political organizations to fight side by side with the Chinese Communist Party. In consequence of Japan’s defeat, the Korean Volunteer Army returned to Korea in succession. They associated “Yan’an” with the spirit of resistance against Japan and spread it far and wide. In the ethos, Kim Saryang and his Nomamanri were simply regarded as anti-Japanese stories of Korean Volunteer Army. However, with the thorough analysis of Nomamanri, people can discover that the place Yan’an is not only considered the sacred place of resistance against Japan, but is deemed as Utopia of that time and evokes the author’s memories of his hometown that was devastated by the Japanese invaders. Yan’an spirit showed a new way for the Koreans who have just broken away from the colonization of Japan and is destined to have great influence on the future and national development of Korea. What’s more, it gives the author hope that his hometown could be rebuilt.
Considering that Kim Saryang had escaped from the colonized Korea and fled to Taihang Mountain, one of the resistance bases in China, the study of Nomamanri should be connected with the Rectification Movement. The Rectification Movement rendered the ideological remoulding and self-criticism as the daily routine and made them the trend of artistic creation in those base areas.
The hero’s repeated self-denial and self-criticism of his petty bourgeois class in Nomamanri indicates that it’s not only a typical Yan’an story about the Korean Volunteer Army, but also a story in which the author projects himself onto the hero implying his own ideological transformation.
