초록

Purpose: This study was conducted to identify sexual experience, sex attitudes & knowledge in a person
with schizophrenia, and to explore the relationship between sex attitudes & knowledge. Methods: The
subjects were 368 persons with schizophrenia in a mental health hospital. Data was collected in March
2008 using a structured questionnaire about general characteristics & sexual experience, and the inventory
of sex attitudes & sex knowledge. Significance between degree of sex attitudes, sex knowledge and general
characteristics, and sexual experience was analyzed by t-test, and ANOVA. The degree of relationship
of sex attitudes and sex knowledge was analyzed by correlation coefficient. Results: The average score
of sex attitudes was 3.39, and sex knowledge was 3.31. The level of sex attitudes was significantly different
by education level, experience of receiving sex education, need for sex education, the number of times
of masturbation, intersexual relationships and sexual intercourse. The level of sex knowledge was
significantly different by education level, economic status, experience of receiving sex education, need of
sex education, experience of receiving consultation about sexual problems, sexual harassment, sexual
abuse, intersexual relationships and sexual intercourse. The relationship between sex attitudes and sex
knowledge had a positive correlation. Conclusion: The findings suggest that sex attitudes & knowledge
in a person with schizophrenia were associated with their sexual experiences including sex education. This
information should be used to construct sexual education programs.
