淸州地域의 우물을 통해 본 時代別 都市變遷 硏究 (A Study on Periodic Urban Transformation by Focusing on Wells in the Cheongju Region)

초록

본고에서는 청주지역에서 발굴조사 된 통일신라~조선시대 우물을 형식학적 측면에서 분석하고, 시간성을 검토하여 변천양상을 파악하였다. 이를 바탕으로 청주지역의 시대별 도시변천 양상을 검토하였다.
청주지역에서 확인된 통일신라~조선시대 우물은 평면형태가 Ⅰ(상부 원형+하부 방형 : ), Ⅱ(상하부 원형 : ), Ⅲ(상하부 방형 : )으로 분류되며, 단면형태는 a(中廣形 : ), b(中狹形 : ), c(筒形 : ), d(上廣下狹 : ), e(上狹下廣 : )으로 분류된다.
통일신라시대는 Ⅰa( - ), Ⅰb( - ), Ⅰc( - ), Ⅱc( - )형식이 축조되었다. 우물은 바닥에 방형의 목재를 대고 벽석을 축조하기 시작하여 상부는 원형으로 마무리하는 형식이 주를 이루고 있으며, 단면형태는 중광형ㆍ중협형ㆍ통형 등 다양한 형태로 축조되었다. 이 당시 우물은 西原京의 도시조성 및 확장성에 따라 무심천 서쪽에서 일부는 무심천 건너 동쪽으로 축조공간의 변화를 엿볼 수 있다.
고려시대는 Ⅰd( - ), Ⅱc( - ), Ⅲc( - )형식이 축조되었다. 우물은 석재를 이용하여 원형으로 바닥을 조성하고, 통형으로 올라가 원형으로 상부를 마무리하는 형식이 주를 이루고 있다. 우물은 이전시기에 비하여 서쪽은 사직동 일대, 북쪽은 북문로 2가 일대, 동쪽은 문화동, 남쪽은 모충동 일대로 확장되는 양상을 보인다. 이는 통일신라시대부터 연속되는 무심천을 중심으로 도심이 재편되고 있는 양상을 보여준다고 할 수 있다. 또한 무심천 동쪽의 우물은 고려시대의 나성축조 및 도심 경영과 관련 있으며, 무심천 서쪽은 용화사와 흥덕사 등의 사찰경영과 관련된 도심공간의 재편성을 추론할 수 있다.
조선시대는 Ⅱc( - ), Ⅱe( - ), Ⅲc( - )가 축조되고 있다. 우물은 석재를 이용하여 원형으로 바닥을 조성하고, 상협하광형 또는 통형으로 올라가 원형으로 상부를 마무리하는 형식이 주를 이루고 있다. 조선시대에 확인되는 우물은 청주읍성 내에 집중되어 분포하고 있으며, 이는 고려말의 홍수와 청주읍성을 새롭게 축조함으로써 읍성을 중심으로 도심이 집중되었음을 알 수 있다.

영어초록

This paper analyzed wells from the Unified Silla Dynasty to Chosun Dynasty that were excavated and surveyed in the Cheongju region to identify the changes and transformations by examining temporality. Based on the examination, this paper reviewed the historical changes and transformations of cities in Cheongju by period.
In the Unified Silla Dynasty, Ⅰa(-), Ⅰb(-), Ⅰc(-), Ⅱc(-) forms were constructed. The main format of construction of the wells was to put square wood on the floor to start to build wall stones then to finish the upper part in a circular shape. The cross-sectional shape was found to be constructed in various forms such as wide-middle type(中廣), narrow middle-type(中狹), and cylindrical type. The changes in the construction places of the wells at the time could be found as some were constructed in the west(ⅠaㆍⅠb) of Musimcheon while others were in the east(ⅠcㆍⅡc) of Musimcheon according to the urban construction and expansion of Seowon-Kyoong (西原京).
In the Goryeo Dynasty, the forms of Ⅰd(-), Ⅱc(-), Ⅲc(-) were built. The method mainly used to build wells involved laying stones to form the floor in a circular shape, building up in a cylindrical shape, and finishing the upper part in a circular shape. Compared to the previous period, the wells tend to expand to Sajik-dong area to the west, Bukmun-ro 2-ga area to the north, Munhwa-dong to the east, and Mochung-dong to the south. This can be interpreted as showing the reorganization of the city center around Musimcheon, which had continued since the Unified Silla Dynasty. In addition, it could be inferred that the wells in the east of Musimcheon are related to the construction of city enclosure in the Goryeo Dynasty and urban center management, while the wells in the west of Musimcheon relates to the restructuring of the urban space in regards to the management of temples such as Yonghwasa Temple and Heungdeoksa Temple.
n the Chosun Dynasty, Ⅱc(-), Ⅱe(-), Ⅲc(-) were being constructed. The wells were mainly built by the form of making the foundation in a circular shape using stones, building up in a narrow-top-wide-bottom or cylindrical shape, then finishing the upper part in a circular shape. The wells that could be identified in the Chosun Dynasty are concentrated inside Cheongjueupseong Fortress, which shows that the urban center was concentrated around the Eupseong due to the flood at the end of the Goryeo Dynasty and new construction of Cheongjueupseong Fortress.
