퍼스의 기호유형에 따른 세대별 은행권 디자인 분석 (Analysis of Generation Banknote Design through Peirce's Semiotics)

초록

은행권은 한 나라를 대표하는 공공매체이자 기술적 · 문화적 콘텐츠를 담은 특수보안제품이다. 특히 은행권 디자인은 법적 효력을 갖기 위한 위조방지장치의 기능적 요소와 한 국가의 상징적 요소를 동시에 담아내는 시각표현물이다. 최근 은행권 디자인은 첨단위조방지장치를 내세우며 자국의 시각 정체성 수준과 면모를 드러내고 있다. 단순히 이미지를 재현하거나 사실적으로 표현하는 방식에서 벗어난 오감의 공감각적 결합은 사용자에게 새로운 경험과 참여를 제공하고, 은행권의 동적인 장면을 창출함으로써 새로운 시각 정체성을 생성함과 동시에 새로운 표현 전략을 창출한다. 따라서 이러한 전략은 은행권 디자인의 기술 수준을 드러내는 주요한 특징이자 상징적 기호이다. 이 연구는 세대별 은행권 디자인의 특징과 변화를 통해 위조방지 디자인의 특수성을 고찰하고, 은행권 디자인 내포된 시각 기호의 의미와 가치를 파악하고자 실행되었다. 이에 따라 연구자는 퍼스(Peirce)가 제시한 3가지 기호 유형인 도상(Icon), 상징(Symbol), 지표(Index)의 표현 가능성과 가치를 연역적으로 해석하고 기술변화에 따른 세대별 은행권 디자인을 분석함으로써 위조방지장치가 은행권의 시각 정체성을 결정하는 주요 요소임을 살펴보았다. 그 결과 연구자는 은행권 디자인이 이미지의 사실적 재현을 활용한 국가 상징으로서의 표현을 넘어 다양한 위조방지요소를 활용한 다중감각적 시각 정체성을 부여하며 사용자의 경험과 참여를 유도하는 방향으로 이동하고 있으며, 이러한 지각 요소의 적극적 활용은 차세대 은행권 디자인에 중요한 수단이자 속성으로 자리매김할 것이라는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

영어초록

Banknote design is a special security product that is a public medium representing a country and contains technical and cultural contents. In particular, banknote is a social and cultural tool that preserves and creates value through user relations and communication. Banknote is also a visual expression that simultaneously embodies the functional elements of anti-counterfeiting devices and the symbolic elements of a country to ensure the distribution, storage and legal effect of goods. Nowadays banknote design reveals the level and aspect of the visual identity of the country by introducing advanced anti-counterfeiting devices. The multi-sensory perceptual elements of anti-counterfeiting devices provide users with new experiences and participation, and the fusion of materials and materials creates a new visual identity by creating dynamic scenes of banknotes. This representation strategy is a key feature and symbolic symbol that reveals the technical level of the country. The purpose of this study is to examine the special characteristics of anti-counterfeiting design through the characteristics and changes in banknotes, and to understand the meaning and value of the visual symbol of banknotes. In this regard, the researcher analyzes the expressional value of Icon, Symbol, Index which are three symbol types suggested by Peirce’s Semiotics, to find out the importance of anti-counterfeiting design by analyzing the relationship. In conclusion, it is understood that banknote design is moving toward direction of user experience and participation by giving multi-sensory visual identity using various anti-counterfeiting elements beyond the representative national symbol that utilizes the representational reality of image in the future. The active use of these perceptual elements can confirm that it will become an important means and attribute of the banknote design to the next generation.
