사라진 옹기형태별 문화경계 (Deconstructed Cultural Boundaries of Earthenware Forms in Gyeongsangbuk-do)

초록

In this paper, I attempt to consider the deconstructed cultural boundaries of earthenwares types in Gyeongsangbuk-do. In order to examine the deterritorialization and standardization of earthenware forms from the 1950s, my first step was to obtain ethnohistorical data suitable for measuring the similarities and disimilarities of earthenware forms of the 55 that I selected.
The analysis indicated that there are juxtaposition, coincidence, and discordance of the geographical, administrative, and cultural boundaries before 1950s. The characteristics of these boundaries were affected by ecological settings, spheres of open markets, evolution of transportation means, geographical location of kilns, and circulation networks of earthenwares.
Especially, after 1960s, these features of three boundaries have been changing due to the transformations of industrial structure from agriculture to heavy industries. Most artisans have migrated to urban cities and gave up their workshops. Therefore, the number of those has been decreased rapidly from 500 in 1969 to 35 in 2003 at the national level.
Moreover, socio-geographical mobility and information interchanges of making skills among some artisans have influenced the similar forms and styles of earthenwares. Also, the strategies and systems of mass production to improve productive efficacy based on economic rationality have played crucial role to demolish the locality and authenticity of making techniques. The hybridity and translocality of earthenwares forms in this area have replaced the traditional types of earthenwares. The constructed cultural boundaries have disappeared.
